DJ as usuall you did a great job capturing the expressions, faces, with great colors and nice ice! BTW I always shoot at F4 its fine when using iso 3200 @ 1/320th for most rinks except our new home and away rink . I am actually hoping the new 5dmkII goes to iso +12,800 so I can get a 100-400 or a 28-300!

dj these are excellent. Too many fav's out of the bunch. I would only hope that my mistakes were this forgiving.

Frank I've seen way too much of your work to believe you ever make mistakes!

But I thank you for taking the time to check 'em out and comment... cheers!

Nice job DJ, especially with the equipment mix-up. They are all good, but #1 is by far the best of the bunch. Since I'm not shooting hockey anymore, I'm looking forward to seeing lots more from you this hockey season.

Oh man. First off... long time no talk and hope things are going great DW!

Dustin... as the guy I feel in many ways taught me how to improve shooting youth hockey, I always appreciate your feedback. I think this forum took a huge hit when you stepped back from shooting it... so many many thanks for the compliments, and for all your generous tips along the way.

CHEERS!

DJ - what a great job. I'd have never known you "messed up" by the results you got. Way to start out the season on a roll!

To the other great hockey-shooting "DW"... many thanks for checking 'em out and I look forward to great Blackhawks action again this year. My son (gasp) has become a Hawks fan, which sure hurts a pained Leafs fan as you know, but I gotta admit I always enjoy your shots.

Usually the chorus I get is a chorus of boos!

Thanks a bunch for the kind words.

DJ... you are the master of youth hockey. I always have a hard time getting good face exposure while maintaining the details in the ice. These look great.

Paul, really appreciate you taking the time to have a look and also for the kind words. And for the record, for a guy who doesn't shoot hockey predominantly, I learned a thing or two from your last posted set... I have trouble ever being called a "master" by someone in a whole different league than mortals like me, but I thank you. Cheers.

Many thanks as always Gerry... appreciate the kind words.

And I'm pulling for the new MKII for you, let's hope it'll make even consumer glass work at ISO25,600! Either that... or they add new lights to the ceiling of that barn!

Cheers mister.

Really great shots!

That rink looks fairly well lit compared to some of the holes I've seen.

Great shots for the lens, F stop and all. #1 & 5 look really good.

I'm a little dumber tho...Took me a month to realize the 400/5.6L had a built in lens hood. Went to twist it back in and has been stuck ever since.
Keep shootin.

You and I should get together and shoot sometime! We could try forcing each others' lenses on, or maybe filling our cameras with water before shooting!

Thanks for taking the time to check 'em out Bill.

After reading the intro I wasn't expecting the quality shots you posted. Pleasantly suprised. D700 is a treat for sure. Can't wait to see more this season. Good stuff DJ.

DJ, I can't believe how clean these are for your ISO. I shoot a lot of hockey and you beat my canon on those shots.

How was the overall light in the rink you were at?

"Adapt and Overcome!" Don't remember who said it but that is what you did!!!!

Very cool shots. I rarely get a chance to shoot hockey these days but when I do it s usually my brother playing in the evening. These images bring back many memories of going to hockey games as a kid, mostly it was trying to keep warm at some of the venues we visited. Keep up the good work. #10 and #4 are my favorites.
