No other Canon camera body beats the reds on a 1D classic....

I think he's saying that the reds coming out of a 1D are unique and he likes them...

I am finding the color (particularly red) with the new beta camera profiles for Lightroom 2 are doing a much better job with my various Canon bodies...

Yup!

I've heard that about the new A-Lightroom version as well. Kinda sad when you have to depend on a third party developer to get that benefit. Hopefully Canon heeds that and incorporates the same into the next DPP version.

Doesn't Canon have profile support in DPP already? It thought the DPP raw converter used the profile you selected in the camera.

I'm confused. Unless my monitor profile suddenly goes away each time I look at the OP's example I'd say that its color balance is pretty far off, no true reds on that beach flower. Was that image processed with a 3000K WB?

BTW the Adobe simulated Canon Picture Styles, called Camera Styles, look very good. I've reprocessed several galleries and the new CR4.5 gives better color than earlier versions. Camera Neutral, Camera Standard and Camera Landscape look great. It's definately worth the effort to install the CR4.5 beta and the related camera profiles.

Picture Styles is what I was thinking of. The Adobe profiles mirror the Canon pictures styles. But Adobe provides a profile editor so you can create your own.

When Canon announced cameras which picture styles they were supposed to provide more of them over time. It sounds like they have not followed through on that.

Do they overexpose on their own too? or is that the photographer ?

I'm not personally seeing anything really unique or special about the red in that photo. But then it is pretty small. This shot is right out of DPP with no color adjustment or picture style applied.

If you want accurate colour out of your Canon, use DPP.

There are about ten or more Canon Picture Styles. There is also a Picture Style Editor available on-line. I've made several of my own; Low Red is Standard with that too-much-red reduced by 5%, Violet Fixed corrects Standard's problem of turning some blue sports uniforms violet. The editor is not all that easy to use but it's usable.

I use to +1 this. But the new ACR profiles are flawless if not better than DPP.

Yep. Me 2. Loving ACR/LR2 profiles.

DPP interface just annoys me.

Me too. I'm so thrilled with the new LR2 profiles I haven't stopped gasping and whooping yet. At last DPP can go in the trash can where it belongs.

The reds have been beaten long ago or not?
