No doubt about the quality and design of that Monopod head. I was tempted...
I was reaching for the phone... I just can't justify the price tag in my own mind - and I love whiz-bang. I have not found the Bogen lacking in use. Obviously, by reading this thread, I still lust for the RRS - maybe at 1/2 the price.
If you are using a sidekick, you would be much better off to just remove the sidekick from the ball head, and use your camera in the ball head. Direct on the ball head will be faster to set up, easier to use, and significantly more rigid than adding the second head to the Sidekick. Using the RSS monopod head on a regular Wimberley is only if you do not have a ball head available, but do have the full Wimberley and the monopod head available.
I agree that the new RSS monopod head is well built, and will be very useful on a monopod. I have not had the chance to shoot yet with the one I just got, but it is indeed another well executed product from RSS.

I have tried it both on the Wimberley and a Mongoose 3.5 and it workd fine. If it works on the Mongoose it will work on the Sidekick.

It does seem that it would be easy to just remove the sidekick but I was thinking of the times when I am already set up and wanted a quick shot with a noncollard lens. Adding the RRS monopod head is only one short step. I wouldn't think there would be any stability issues with adding the head to the sidekick but that is something I would just have to try to know.
Got it and it works as advertised. Wish they would have put a set screw on it for where it screws on to the monopod, that would be very easy to do...but with the exception of Wimberley, no one does that. But still, a nice unit and sturdy.

Can you carry the monopod & RRS head with a big lens attached like the 500/600 over your shoulder ?
I use the RRS on my G5540 with the 500 and 600 and it doesn't creep when locked down and carried over my shoulder. I couldn't say the same for the Manfrotto 3232 and Wimberley clamp.
It is simply the perfect solution for using a large telephoto on a monopod unless you choose to attach it directly to the monopod. I personally like the versatility of the RRS over directly attaching the lens to a monopod.
As much as I don't think a ballhead should be used on a tripod, and I like the idea of the RRS monopod head, I think it is overpriced. I'm looking pretty hard at getting a Markings Q3 that I could use anyhow and then just using that instead. The Q3 has such a nice friction control that it would be ok on a monopod and it is just about the same money as the RRS monopod head plus it can be used on a tripod.
