p.1 #1 · First from the kayak (6)

My wife and I recently purchased a tandem kayak and life being what it is we hadn't had a chance to go out in it until now. Here are the results from the maiden voyage with a camera. There is still a lot to learn, it is nice to be low but the subjects are so close sometimes that it is too difficult to get low enough. Hmm, maybe a right angle viewer? I headed out with just the 300 but there were times I was wishing for the 70-200

Anyway we went out in harsh, cloudless light and had a blast regardless. Here are the results, the good, the fun, the "I just felt like its".

All 40d, 300 f4 IS L

I hope you enjoy them. C&C if you desire.

Tim

1&2 wood duck chicks
3 Momma woody, I never notice that you can see through their nostrils before.

super, a whole new stalking experience.......love the greenie in that habitat of course.

Have seen that nostril light before....really neat in the backlight.
Looking forward to more from the kayak, can you lay down prone if by yourself?

Thanks Roger, the wood ducks amazed me, they didn't fear the boat at all, aproach them on foot and the head for the hills!

Thanks Dave, it is a whole new stalking experience. One with very little to hide behind. I suppose I could lay down some if I was alone. I'm still a bit nervous with my gear that close to the water. I'll have to practice that on dry land and give it a shot.

Very nice Tim. Great to hear about the kayak, with two of you one can keep it straight while the other shoots. My wife and I love our kayaks but she is glad she's in her own. She does video and doesn't need me clicking on her sound. The female wood duck is so filled with details and great light. My fav.

Great job Tim!!! Hope all went well on the maiden voyage and you kept the gear nice and dry. These are great first shots given you hadn't shot from a kayak before and the conditions seem a bit harsh. Soon it will all be second nature. Can't wait to see more.

Keep up your kayak posts Tim, between you and Jason (jakita33) you'll push me into finishing my stitch-and-glue mahogany kayak that I've been a-building since...well, for awhile now. You can really get perspectives that you can't from the shore. The Wood Ducklings are great, especially #2, nice look and reflection of the Pied-Billed -- and I don't think ANYone can have Greenies that look like Dave's, so we just better settle for what we have...

Best Wishes,
Steve

Tim
I recently had the opportunity photograph from a kayak and it was fun. Looks like you manage to get fairly close to the subjects. Great set especially # 3 and 4.

Tim, after seeing how close you can get I think we should set up a 'fleet' purchase on kayaks, I have been dragging my feet getting mine, but this sure is another great reason to go for it!

Pics look excellent in that light, you got all you could and they are very crisp. Wait til you see that Greenie in the good light, that is a good looking bird you have lined up my friend I can hear that pie-billed saying 'is that you Tim'?

Great outing and I really hope your wife enjoyed it too, any shots from her?? Come on Mrs Tim, your turn

Karl............Good for you buddy!

Very good job, Tim. The harsh light doesn't seem to have done much damage to your images. The level of details is excellent, so are the colors. I immagine that was a lot of fun. I particularly like #1 and 6.

Wonderful set Tim

I started to pick top picks, only to realize I didn't know what not to choose.

Congrats on the Greenie. I got my first one yesterday.

Keep Kayaking - - seems a good way to get great shots.

Nice Tim,
Nice close sharp images

Ive been thinking about a canoe or a kayak but was concerned about stability and dumping my gear in the water. Was it fairly stable?

Nice shots Tim. Can't get any better than shooting from a kayak! This sure will give you plenty of opportunity for more great shots.

Pretty sweet set for a maiden voyage, Tim!! Love shootin' from a 'yak. Very stable and it's
so cool being down on their level, eh?! Don't forget something wide for new landscape
perspectives coming onto shore.
