Well, Mr. Horne, all I can tell you is the rep for Pixels here in SLC said it's still on for a shipping date of July 25th. Got that update yesterday. As for the OTHER Ben, I prepaid for the camera and flash (SB-900) just to take it off my plate. As for expense I have insurance that should cover most of the surgery fortunately, so I'm not going to derail this process as I'm fully expecting a great outcome from the surgery.
Traveler, good luck with your surgery. I had PRK done as well. I didn't have any condition other than just plain bad eyesight. I was a borderline candidate due to thickness of my cornea. I also got lucky to have one of the best Army eye surgeon's do it. I don't know if he still moonlights but if you're in Washington I can find out. My experience, the first several days you will not be able to go outside (too bright). I was driving again 7-12 days later. Halos went away slowly, took a couple months for them to go away completely. 4 years later....my vision is 20/20 or better, no issues whether up close or far away. I wish the same for you. PRK is tougher on the patient than the normal surgery but the benefits are better.
Important note: my memory is foggy but I think they told me that for a couple months one shouldn't have "excessive" force placed on the eyes. So no swimming and my guess is that you'll not want to put that eyepiece up against the eye as well. Good thing there is live view
As for the D700, I hope it arrives in late Aug or Sept but only because I pre-ordered via Amazon and I am planning on having the money by then. If it comes sooner I'll have to cut back on coffee, gas, and lenses
I hear ya on the cutting back part Jack. As for the PRK, mine will be a bit more unique. Unfortunately more uncomfortable as well. I involves the complete removal of the outer layer of the cornea (yeah we're talking I'll be on narcotics for a few days at least) until it heals after 4-7 days later. Will be completely patched up, NO vision and minimal moving around. Basically house bound. In the process of this removal I understand a theraputic contact lens is put in place to assure correct placement and healing of the new tissue.
You see the whole problem is the base membrane is not correctly adhering to the other levels of the cornea, which causes some pitting and irregularities of the outer layer, causing my prescription to change weekly as a result. It is VERY frustrating. It is a condition for which this is one of 2 solutions, and this is the more accurate of the choices as the other choice would not offer the side benefit of vision correction for distance, which only the laser can.
So this is a bit of a different application of the PRK as it is actually "removing" a layer, not just reshaping, which it will also do at another level. I love the idea it will supposedly eliminate the astigitism, which I hate. If I get to 20/20 I'll be on cloud 9 for sure. Just hoping it eliminates this problem altogether as I don't want any reoccurance that's for sure.
Good luck with that surgery, Lee, I too am cursed with rotten vision and coke bottle eyeglasses, and a few eye injuries to top it off, one almost detaching a retina in the process, so I'm sensitive to anything that comes near my eyes. Hopefully that gets you up and going with much better vision just in time to play with that new camera. Don't be surprised if they do the mummy wrap on your head to keep you from using your eyes at all the first few days, definitely gives the eyes rest they need to recuperate.
