I have tested the focus presets a few times, just to see how they worked. Can't say I ever really USE them much, though. (Though I should in a few situations).
I've never tried the buttons on the ends of those large lenses, though. Does anybody?

I have set my camera's CF to "servo AF-one shot AF" toggle. A useful function, no doubt. However, there is a problem for a handholder like myself: Due to their position, it is very awkward to actuate any of the four buttons while supporting the lens.

The "ghosting" is caused by the body and not the lens, however, it doesn't appear to be related to the AF either. It happens once in a blue moon and cannot be repeated. A lot of people speculate that it is more the dust shaking mechanism is the culprit. I tend to believe that it is true.
Jeff, how much is all this suffering and stress worth over the past year? Sometimes, as with a lemon car, it is better to bite the bullet and move on even at some monetary loss.

I agree. Sometimes you just have to dump the thing and move on.

I like cameras and bodies that work out of the box without having to be sent in for calibration. I realize that it may be asking too much, but it seems pretty basic to me.
I have a feeling that I'm not the only one - and Canon's track record will begin change very soon. Bet on it............

I am sick of having to send every lens and body in for calibration or other problems. I would just like to get some equipment once and be able to start shooting with it with confidence right out of the box.

THAT'LL bring top dollar, for sure.
Of course not, but somebody might want one for manual focus and/or Liveviewer use. A low price is better than throwing it in the trash/recycling as I would be tempted to do.

Too much of a camera for his needs ?
Seriously though, the only path forward I see here is to persist on seeking Canon's help.
I wonder how this would be handled if Annie Lebowitz had these problems....
