The front connection caps don't look right on this. More like the old D200 style.

I think maybe it's real since those forums who may be sponsored by Nikon in China deleted all posters about D700 yesterday. it never happened before.

If someone would just make me a damn lightweight, DX-designed 16mm prime I wouldn't need to salivate over things like this.

exactly.. I have been hoping so much that Nikon will make an ultra wide prime that is similar to the 50mm 1.8 in price and quality.. something between the 12-16mm region..

Sigh. After all the purchases I've made lately - including a new guitar - I'll probably have to pass on this one. I've got some great glass, some great cameras, and lots of memory cards and film to use with them. I need a new printer more than a new camera body, as much as I'd love to have one.

And if you believe that, I've got some swamp land I'd like to sell you! This sounds like a great setup for me, as many of us have been asking for. I think I would wait a bit before jumping on the bandwagon if this is for real, but I'd love to have it in my bag. In fact, just today I was discussing an FX camera with my wife as being the best option for getting her into digital. She loves film and the 35mm format, and uses the 60mm macro lens most of the time. An FX sensor camera in a D300 body would be just the ticket. Problem is, then I would need two of them. Either that, or buy a D3 as well.

Now if I could just find a wallet that had that much money in it!

David

It does not mean the camera is made in China. It means the brochure is printed in China. And while I usually denigrate any rumors, this seems pretty real. Look at the printers marks (the ink colors) on the edge of the shot posted above. As others have written, if this is a fake, someone went to a lot of trouble.

As for the lenses, the 24mm PC-E is already out (but hard to find.) The 45mm PC-E has already been announced and expected in October, but I don't think the original announcement said it was a micro lens. The third lens is probably the already announced 85mm PC-E. But what's the fourth lens?

This also implies that we're not seeing new (other than Tilt-Shift) primes this year (unless the fourth lens is a prime, but even in that case, it means only one.)

This camera does not replace either the D300 or the D3. This camera fits in the middle. Rockwell claims it will be $3300 in the U.S. That's just a drop below the midpoint of the D300 to D3 selling price. Rockwell has a very large sharp image of the supposed camera on his site.

Just because they're releasing this (assuming they really are), it doesn't mean they're not releasing a D90.

And I agree with those who think the numbering makes sense. Direct DX replacements for the D300 can be D400, D500 and D600. Maybe Nikon figures that on 18 month cycles, that gives them up to five years to maintain DX. The replacement or expansion of the D3 will be a D3x or D4, D5, etc. FX in semi-pro bodies will be D700, D800, D900, etc. Makes sense to me.

If this isn't real, congrats to the joker and for once, I'll admit to being taken in.

I agree, if it is fake, someone did a great job at faking it (insert girlfriend joke here) lol

The pic on Rockwell's site doesn't match the printed snaps: the vf, and the side caps on the right side of the pic. Look like the D200 caps or the older style.

Then this pic of the D300.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d300/images/d300-200_9786-600.jpg

The hooks for the straps are in the EXACT same position. There is even a little dust spot on both pics near the DOF preview button (well, in between the grip area and lens mount). Even the crappy lens reflection is the same.

Anyways, the D700 text looks like a mighty fine PS job though. Almost had me going there, but, the camera might be legit, but the pics arent.

After a quick run-through in PS, even the PSer did a good job of covering most flaws in composites. But, if you download both images, and make them both 600px on the long side, and place one over the other in CS3, you'll see its the exact same image.

I don't care how good of a photographer you are, no one can do that.

Yeah, KR pic is obvious hack job, one from the Chinese thread are, imho, legit. I can't see a person trying to pull an elaborate hoax thinking of changing the socket covers to a new, previously unused separate hinged design. They would have probably used the D300 kind or at worst the old D200 kind.

Oh for crying out loud...KR is just using the pic as a placeholderfor the real deal. Do you really think he has any expectation of fooling ayone into thinking he has a true product shot of an unreleased camera?

there are suddenly discount running in Europe on the D300 and D3, you can save up to 300 euros on the D300...
I think this D700 is really not a rumor, and will turn true in a very near future.
the cashback actiion is running from June 15th till August 15th...
