Very cool! I'm a bit surprised that they're using a microdrive in that device though. Seems like solid state would be better in terms of battery use, and durability.
Yeah they sell a few that use solid state memory...X-Trainer (512 or 1Gb) Muvo 64-256Mb. Of course opening the device voids the warranty... but when you save $150-$200 its worth it.
I found a third-party 2.2Gb Microdrive but it says it has been found not to be compatible witht the Digital Rebel, so I am assuming it wont work with the 10D. http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=GS1022C-N
I ordered one and planon doing the same as you.
Did you update with the 4GB firmware or the 1.5?
Thanks,
Ike

So I installed a 1GB MD, powered the MuVo, and it gave me an error message. After digging through nomadworld.com website, I downloaded the firmware update and got the MuVo to work.
So, I got a 4GB Microdrive AND an MP3 player for $299.99 (plus shipping). Now I can take tons of photos while listening to hours of music. Life is good!

Do you think the 1.5 gig firmware is maybe for a CF card as opposed to an MD
And don't go near those 2.2 gig Magicstor drives... I wa sth eone that told Commpgeeks.com that it was incompatible with Drebel abd 10D.. (or one of the people who did anyway...) but the magicstor pretty much sucks no matter what.
Can you confirm that the Muvo2 you bought/received is a normal retail version, and not a pre-production version? If you bought it from a retailer, do you mind stating which one? There are some people saying that the full production versions will not have removable microdrives.
Yep, I bought the US Retail version from the link I posted above your message (direct from Creative.com) and I bought it just last week. Your mileage may vary.

I checked on this last night, Ed, and the mini iPod does use the same drive, and it costs only $249 instead of $299. Hasn't been released yet, though.
i thought the mini ipod had a toshiba drive, one of those new 0.85 inch drives they just announced. i recall reading something about how 4gb mini ipod prices would drop once toshiba increased the capacity to 5gb this summer.
could you cite the source for your info re mini ipod and the microdrive? even if it's the toshiba drive and not the hitachi microdrive, so long as it's a CF card it shouldn't matter much, except that we don't know anything about the performance/reliability of the toshiba drives.
The Hitachi 4Gb Microdrive is among the slowest in the 10D. The Write Speed is about 757K/sec: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-6111. And it writes to the computer at about 3965K/sec. Interesting.... The Hitachi 4Gb Microdrive came up as the fastest media in the Kodak DCS Pro 14N at 3152K/sec.
But for that kind of non stop shooting you can beat the price/or speed.
