Some really nice shots here.

Leon, is it just my monitor, or would those flower shots have a little more punch if underexposed by 1/3rd stop?
The DOF is good, but they aren't all really poping on my screen like I think they could.
Maybe that's just my personal preference though.

Talking of feedback....
Did anyone notice the horrifc purple fringing on my first shot? I had very limited storage space available with me, so I had to shoot those in jpg. This is something I usually never do if I have RAW option, and this was another situation where RAW would have given much better results as made a complete mess of trying to remove the purple halos in PS Oh well....

You may well be right regarding my shots, I metered them and processed them differently from what I normally do, basically pushing them to the right as far as I can, and leaving contrast under control so the 'pop' factor wasn't what I had in mind, I'll spend more time on them later.

I noticed the purple halos in your shots but I supposed that was a given when it comes to shooting wide open through contrasty transitions (most noticeable was around the lights). Shoot RAW next time and manually desaturate the areas perhaps? I personally like monochromes and duo tones so I don't really mind the effect even if the lens has it.

Actually, great point Leon. I think my first shot could be very nice in mono.
I might just have to play around in channel-mixer tonight

I've not tried duotones in PS yet. Looks very complicated. Choosing colours and assigning them different curves, and so on.....
It is certainly something I want to try out though.
Are there any easy PS plug-ins out there

Your Canon 50mm f1.2 focuses well. Were these shot on manual or Auto focus?

That is very interesting. I assume the flower was either inside or held steady with something.

I may try this with the Noctilux and see what I get.

My 50/1.2 L focuses quite good, the famous "problem" is in the f/2.8-f/4 range. The lens had "average" focusing accuracy with the 5D but performs much better on my current 1Ds II. Feels like a different lens. Still pretty nice on the 5D.

And for the 85-135mm range. I don't feel I need an 80mm lens but 135mm lens is very different. Close portraits with a 50mm may make your nose look bigger than you like

Cross-posted from a couple other threads. I'm pretty happy with this shot and so is my wife. That says it all, IMO.

Rokkor 58/1.2 wide open on 5D, ISO 1250, 1/60th.
