Come on people, not everyone is devious. Charlotte is a good friend, and her "canned response" is nothing of the kind. Mistakes get made - I've had books listed on Amazon that I didn't even have a signed contract to write. Not too surprisingly, it was with Wiley as well.
Publishers have a reserved list of ISBN numbers they use for new titles. It's easy to grab the first available one when you're putting out data on a new book. That doesn't mean it's being written, or will be written.
Charlotte is as honest as they come. If she says she doesn't know about it and it's a mistake, you can be sure that's the case. It's logical to assume there will be an update to the 5D, and if Canon history is consistent, it'll be named the Mark II.
So, are you saying she/they just made up the name 5D-II? And that they'll just change the title later if they need to? And re-write the book if they need to?
Or, are you just saying that all her danged books are the same ol' stuff with a different name slapped on the front?

You tell me! Is there a replacement model after that ? Not that it won't work/drive but if there is a replacement model, meaning not being the current model, it is obsolete. At least that's my understanding of obsolete: again, not being the current model. That's all.
Technical obsolecence versus functional obsolecence. A device is technically obsolete when it is surpassed by superior technology.
A device is functionally obsolete when it can no longer perform the task it was designed to perform (not necessarily because it has ceased to function).
Film cameras for snapshots are technically obsolete (surpassed technologically in every significant way by camera phones).
Kodak Instamatic cameras are both functionally and technically obsolete (can't even buy film or flashbulbs for them).
Polaroid cameras are technically obsolete and will soon be functionally obsolete.
I'm not saying any of those things.
First, every book I've ever written or co-written started with a name that was temporary. Sometimes it sticks, sometimes it changes before publication - the marketing people have almost total control over that part of the project.
Second, the book hasn't even been started yet - there is no camera or docs from Canon for it to be started.
Third, every book is preannounced at sites like Amazon to generate interest and presales - you'll find quite a few that are "not published, preorder now". I've had books show up on Amazon before I submitted the first chapter for review.
And, I've working on books with prerelease software that had to have extensive changes because screens or features changed.
Fourth, I'm not even remotely implying that her books are all the same. Her Digital Rebel books cover much of the same info, but when you're writing about a camera, it's kind of hard to not cover the same info when it's in both models of the camera isn't it?
Writing a book is a pain in the ass, none of us want to put out a lousy title. Not sure if your post was meant to be humorous, if so, I apologize for sounding harsh.

Actually, you are . . . in the next sentence, even.

Proving my point.

It was meant to illustrate a point, and it worked. Sounding harsh? Nah, you simply answered my question that way I figured you would, proving what everybody should already have known in the first place. Then again, maybe they did.

I was at the camera shop today, and I said I don't know how to remove noise from photos, and ISO 1600 is noisy. (there was more to this conversation, like how I've never had to shoot higher than ISO 800 for what I do).
The guy at the counter said, switch to Nikon D3 or300? I'm not sure their brands and names. It appears both exist, but what one he said, I don't know. I'm in the minority at the camera shop I go to locally, they all shoot Nikon.
Robert,
I am now using NIK's Dfine 2.0 to selectively reduce noise. Might be worth a demo.

Please use it as much as you can under all different kinds of conditions so that the 1Dmk3 fiasco doesn't repeat itself... our hopes lie upon you!

I spoke with a Canon technical rep the other day (on a lens issue). Towards the end of our conversation, I asked if he could comment on an updated 5D model being released this year. His response was "well, it is the oldest model in our current lineup".
My gut feeling (worth nothing to most folks) was that I had hit a chord with my question. That being said, it is only logical that the next body release by Canon will be the 5D update. And Canon must really be feeling the pressure from the D300.
It will all play out in reasonable time. Meanwhile, there's no reason all of us can't make some great images today.
"I think that everyone can assume that Canon will--eventually--introduce one or more new cameras. The truth is that I don’t know what the camera (or cameras) will be.
To respond to a few of the comments in this discussion, I can tell you that: (1) I have no inside information; (2) I’m not under NDA; (3) I do not have a pre-release camera of any flavor, and (4) there is no “leak.”
The listing on Amazon.com is simply an error--no subplot, no leaks, and no secrets being kept. Like you, I wait anxiously to see what Canon will announce next.
Also in regard to the Amazon.com listing, I can tell you that I do not know how the error was made, and that I had nothing to do with it. In fact, I didn’t know about the listing until late last night when photographers began e-mailing me.
I sincerely wish the error hadn’t been made, and I can’t speculate on how it happened. I’ve alerted the people I know about the listing errors, and they are working to correct them. I hope that the listing errors are removed real soon now; but given the U.S. holiday weekend, it may be later rather than sooner.
Kind regards,

Her credibility will be on the line if indeed she ends up releasing this book.
Come on, do you really think she cares. The only people making any noise about this are the gearheads on the forums that are salivating just waiting for the next 5D. Come on, go out and shoot some images.
I've had my 5DMKII for about 2 weeks now and I really love it!! Canon has paired it up with a 16-800mm f/1.2 kit lens.....what a great combo (especially for $500).
