Just drop by to say hello.
Hope you remember me...bought 5D from you.

I hope you don't mind that I'm having surgery on your (well, now it's mine) camera.
Good to see you back in the forum....

That is sweet - you actually have the best wide angle lenses out there. I need to start looking up B&H, KEH, and the B&S forum here more often - in the market for the CZ 18mm myself.
Nice capture - Looks like your lenses will be put to good use
just did a few test and so fr it looks like the cz 18mm , cz 28mm and the leica 21mm have the best center sharpness (my concern) with all 3 showing about the same resolving power. i am a little surprised that the $250 cz 28mm is hanging with the other more expensive lens.
Thanks Paul. I paid $865.00 for the lens and it is in absolute pristeam condition. i made a jump wit the leica 21 f/4 and the c/z 18mm f/4 and was impressed with them also

As this is one of the more interesting aspects of photography - not many photographers (on this forum atleast) are shooting a 30 year old lens on a cutting edge D-SLR while hitting terminal velocity at 10k (or more) feet...... the appeal has me curious.....do you set the focus to on the manual lens at infinity and let the camera fire away ? What aperture do you set these to before you jump ?
That's a pretty good deal for the OM 21mm f2.0

my leica 28mm f/2.8 (rom) arrived today so if the weather is good tomorrow i will take it on a jump and see how it size's up to the othet lens. will post a picture then.
I shoot f8-f11 hyperfocal a lot, and I have noticed that my CZ 28 seems to get more d.o.f. at the same aperture as my Olys. That extra d.o.f. really helps with hyperfocal. Hubsand of 16-9.net fame has mentioned this phenomenon too. He showed very clear examples of a Zeiss 85 and Canon 85L in which, at the same aperture, the Zeiss had more d.o.f..
I think some Leica lenses make pictures which look flat, and by that I mean that they are not immersive because they lack '3D effect'. Other Leica lenses don't suffer from this, but it's very hard to quantify and you need to know what to look for. The Zeisses have a tendency to give strong 3D effect more or less across the ranges. For your kind of photography 3D effect and extended hyperfocal range per aperture would seem to me to be the killer criteria. Other lenses, like the Nikon 14-24 can do the 3D trick too, but (some of) the Zeisses do it for so little money.
My Olympus 21/3.5 rocks on my 1DsMk3. It holds up beautifully to 36" prints, haven't tried anything larger yet... And this lens is tiny. That's it mounted to my 40D with the optional Hama hood which vignettes on FF. The Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8 is mounted on the S to the right of the 40D:
wow chris
you have a lot of toys there. your right the oly 21 f3.5 is small. mine is the non multi coated version and dosen't produce near the images the f/2.0 dose. have you tried the leica 21mm f/4 ? your impressions? what are your thoughts on the oly 16mm fisheye (multicoated) ? oly 18mmf/3.5?

Haven't tried any of those, just the lenses in the foreground of the pic above are the only "alternative" lenses I've ever tried. The 3rd one (on the left) is the Zeiss 35-70, which I absolutely love, probably most of all.
well maybe not a still camera lens but believe it or not , back in the day when i was shooting skydiving video productions i used to reach up and zoom in then zoom back rather slowly to give a reveal from the center of the skydiving formation. didn't always work but when it did it looked way cool
