No way. Had it been taken with the 85L, he would have used it at f/1.2, rendering the tip of the girl's nose and her ears out of focus. This picture is much nicer than that!
Good point, Rainer.
I should have said "taken with the 85L stopped down". The 85L is obviously able to yield fine results beyond the "razor thin DoF" excesses.
I was thinking of picking up a EF-S 55-250 IS for those times a lighter / less obvious lens would come in handy. That sample pic above looks VERY good. Seems to be a great lens and a great price.
P.S. Newfoundland weather sucks the most, but a good mainlander would never, ever admit that.
While you guys have been arguing, my webcam (above) has already changed from blue skies, to dumping snow, to fog, and back...twice! ...getting ready to snow, again.

Sorry, what's your point? Since "we guys" began this polite discussion, the weather here has gone from benign, to malevolent, to boring; yet threatening. My webcam (if it existed, which it may or may not), would show, I mean does show, a plethora of conditions contrary and confusing.

Nope. Calgary is a nice place, to drive through.
See, that's the problem. You've never been there long enough to find out.
I've spent enough time out there to know that it deserves the title. One day I was helping my uncle remove 3.5 feet of snow from his 50 yard driveway and the next day I was wearing shorts. I'll never forget it.
That was a long time ago. More recently I flew from Toronto (where I now regretfully live) to Calgary on a business trip. When I arrived it was later at night and I was surprised to be walking to the convenience store in my shirt sleeves, breaking a sweat, at 11:00pm. By the next morning it was sub-zero and windy as hell. "Calgary weather", I thought.
your grass is green. Its spring where u are come to Idaho where its still WINTER we had five inches of fresh snow in the mountains last night and more on its way
I guess that why those of us in SoCal have trouble with photos. Always blue skies, warm days, boring weather. We need some variation to take more exciting pictures.
Actualy after 2 days of shooting homework assignaments, I will take the weather I am "Stuck" with.
