How many times would you want to use your non water sealed 5D in the rain ?
Rain is for nature shooters I retreat and my gear comes along with me. I can't recall any brides demanding that the guest and priest stand in the rain to perform the ceremony either. I suppose everyone should be prepared for everything.
Ok..... so we have one weather controller & another who quits shooting when it does rain. This is an example of one of the possibilities on any given day.

Interesting statement about "quiting". I've shot in the rain with a 20D and XT a few years ago. Matter of fact my image was very similar to yours.
There is a huge difference between working in a rain forest and a lil drizzle. I bet the clients didn't stand in the rain for long. Nor would I.....unless we're talking TTD, even then a rainhood for your gear would work very well.
Ok, op. Sorry to detract so lets get back to your more interesting scheduled program.
i am also trying to decide between these two cameras. i am pretty sure i will get the new 5d when they release it, but i need something before then. i had myself talked into the 5d, but after reading this thread i think i might make more sense to have to go with the 1d2. that way i can have the best of both worlds once the do release the new 5d.
how is the high iso comparison between the 5d and the 1d2?
Wow! great pic of the rain, studio58. I think i might want a 1dmII if i get to shoot that kind of emotion Really I've been blessed to have available indoor locations for rainy weddings.

I made the paralells and comparisons based on usage for WEDDINGS as i shoot with both the 1D III and the 5D...I can honestly say that the image quality that i get from my 5D Is on par if not better than my 1 Series...The hype and steroids i was referring to are the obvious build speed and weather sealing advantages...Only.
I still stand by my opinion that the 5D is undoubtedly the best WEDDING camera on the market today ...Until its brother Mark the second is born of course.!
I'd say the 1DsM2 is the best, but then I'm a little biased...
I own both of these cameras and use both regularly shooting weddings.
IQ wise, the 5D wins hands down, no contest. High ISO, low ISO, doesnt matter. The 1DII just cannot match the 5D's smoothness and detail. Period.
Now structurally it is a landslide in the other direction. The 1DII is built *far* superior.
Bottom line is that unless you can afford a 1DsII, then the 5D is your best shot. The 1DII, while having great build quality, just wont give you optimal image quality for weddings at that price range. The 1DIII and 5D are very close IQ wise, but obviously the 1DIII isnt full frame. Depending on your style, this may or may not be an issue. I know with my fast primes, I absolutely want a full frame.
