p.2 #1 · Me in My Room

I can kind of see where he's going.

Anyone ever look at any Stephen Shore?

Lots of folks have decided Stephen Shore is art. I'm not saying this work is quite (I agree with divemed06 on the critique) Stephen Shore, but if there's nothing for you to think about (which is what I believe art should do) then that's your head.

I actually find a lot of interesting weirdness and symmetry to it. I would have reinforced the symmetry and planted the camera dead center on the wall.

Who says we can't learn and improve from this? Then again, I get Stephen Shore.

p.2 #3 · Me in My Room

Maybe some people don’t see anything here because they aren’t *trying* to see anything. And as Andre said, I’m sure that if the subject were female and wearing lingerie, the responses would be very different.

This image takes me back to my days in college. It’s a bit of a trip down memory lane. The clutter all around reminds me of what it was like to have to pack my entire life into a single room. The spread out pose on the chair with arms wide almost suggest to me someone who is trying to make his personal space seem bigger to compensate for his cramped surroundings.

The odds and ends poking into the frame contribute to the sense of a “life crammed into a space”.

The expression is a bit dazed-looking, and I’m not sure what that signifies. Could just be a sign of a college student tired after an all-nighter – or maybe just a fun party. I think this aspect could definitely use some improvement.

From a technical standpoint, the white balance is off, the image is underexposed, and I don’t care for the black bars. --c

I don't have models to work with so I have to improvise. In the end, I just want to capture myself in my messy nest.

Going to be hard to be proud of this picture knowing that there is alot of personal qualities to it. But I think viewers might be interested in this aspect.

Hope I didn't disappoint.

At first, I thought I have accidentally clicked on myspace.com

Since this is a People Photography and you are a people, I will go ahead and C&C your image anyhow if that is what you want.

You said "just want to capture myself in my messy nest," hence I am assuming the objective of this image is to show yourself in your messy room.

First thing comes to mind is bad placement/angle of camera that gives you bad perspective and lines. I would adjust the positioning of camera to get a better perspective and more pleasing lines. The image has somewhat more architectural qualities than people photography because of the lines in the room.

Secondly, the lighting is flat. I wouldn't mind about the clutter since your objective is to show your messy room.

But if your objective is to get the attention of the ladies, you are in the wrong forum

This is not intended to be a pretty picture...This is a documentary shot of a person in their enviornment. The lighting and the camera and (oh my god!!! a tilty horizon) all are secondary to this guy, his stuff and his room. It's sort of like a scavenger hunt where the harder you look the more stuff you learn about the subject, like the opportunity poster. If this was part of a series of shots taken in the US, Brazil, China, etc. it would show how different and similar we all are. A bored guy in China has a lot in common with a bored guy in US. I am reading more of a socialogical aspect into it than was intended.
In 60 years which will be more interesting this photo or a glamour shot.

You call that "messy"

When is the last time you have visited the average dorm room?
