Well I am impressed by the samples, although they are at a screen resolution. Is there any way that you can upload full file samples to a site like Picasa Web Albums for us to download? It's a free place to share photos and you are allowed to upload (the last box in the set of menus) any size including full files until you fill your allowed free space which is pretty large. Right now I will say that based on your shots I do want to see more, and for the right reasons since most of my travel photos are only for on screen viewing. Thanks for what you have done & please keep it coming. Larry

Thanks PrecisionPhoto, BTW please stop posting pictures of Utah powder, we are getting a monsoon here in New England which should put a quick end to skiing. I would say the 28-300 is pretty good stopped down to F8/F11, the short comings will be wide open indoors at high iso.

I had the older non-IS version for a short while and I was very disappointed with its performance regarding sharpness, color and contrast. Its a tiny lens, for sure, and at 8.0 it may be usable, but I never liked it. I replaced it with a Canon 28-135, which was much better.

Well, would SOMEONE please part with their money, buy the lens and give a coherent report on how it behaves? Please, pretty please?

Hmm I have been thinking of something like this. Does anybody have any expirience with something that goes wider. I don't mind losing something on the long end på 28 is just not that wide, not even on a FF.
You can sometimes get away with a two-shot pano. Quick and easy pano software has let me leave my 17-40 at home a lot lately.

For what it's worth, my travel lens with the 5D is Tamron's 24-135, an under-rated lens if there ever was one. But for 10X zooming, I wouldn't put anything on my 5D but Canon's 28-300 L Image Stabilized lens, which is far from being a travel lens! It's quite a beast. But it is, without question, the best all around extreme zoom lens made.
Though I have great respect for Tamron's products in general, I think that a 3rd party lens that attempts a 10X zoom at a mid-range price point or lower is going to disappoint in some ways. To be expected. However, I'm also of a mind that getting a soft shot is better than getting no shot at all. If Tamron's 28-300 is similar to their 24-135, then you'll have lots of nice shots to bring home.

I too, am getting VERY nice results with my Tamron SP 24-135 lens. It's MUCH better than any of the "superzooms" out there. The large prints from it look great. It's just not possible for the "superzooms" to come close to matching it. There's just too many compromises to made in the design and construction of them. But, I can see why the superzooms are appealing to people. There are times when convenience is jut too nice to pass up. However, my Tamron 28-200 results aren't too bad.

The Canon 24-105/4L IS is a pretty standard lens for turning a 5D into a P/S. That said, for a lot less money, the Tamron 24-135 really is a nice P/S travel lens. It's light & gives high IQ. Of course it's not IS.

I am becoming intrigued. I use the 5D + 105mm f/4 IS as a travel kit. I am considering supplementing it with a longer lens, but I would rather have it all in one lens. This Tamron appears to offer just that, and with less weight and less money too!
