OK, just shoot me know and end it all......
If anyone can make a moose cute ... it IS you
I just want a crop in tight of those eyes with those lashes!!
#4, 5, & 6 are my fav's of the cutie.....

and that motion blur is great in #10....
or was that a still w/o IS ....
makes us FEEL the trip with ya....
almost as much as the video....
Thanks for that BTW....
esp. on the 1st night of Westminster
Let's see, I don't think this is the Herding Group...??
Must be the Working Group??
...even my laptop dog loved hearing the audio part of your video

Thanks for the quick self-portrait of our "FM_NorCal Wonder-Woman"
and for sharing all of your trips with us...

in gratitude,
Nelcha

Wonderful series Susan! What an experience that must have been, my hats off to you for facing the elements. The moose pictures are awesome, unfortunately I'm on a laptop right now and for some reason I can't view the movie, I'll do that very soon.
Great work!!

Sue, you have several standout images in this set. The ones with the highest cuteness factor for me are #7, #5, & #1, in that order. Jealous of the surroundings and I am glad that you were tough enough to go.
Jon

Thanks Jon! It was really really REALLY cold there, and I am a warm weather person - but the scenery more than distracted me from the temps!

Thanks Lil!

2, 3, 9 and 11 are my favorites, but they are all excellent. The movie is interesting too. Thanks for posting them.
Bill

Thanks Bill - glad you enjoyed the movie (my first effort at moviemaking!)

what super series Susan....the moose images are so expressive.
Like the dogsled blur very much

Thanks Dave - the calf was a cutiepie - probably an orphan since his mom was nowhere in sight. Wish I could have tried more dogsled blurs but it was hard to shoot and steer at the same time!!

I really like the ones with snow on the little guy's nose - very cute. That must have been quite an experience getting to drive the dogs; a very COLD but rewarding one!

Thanks Scott - have you been out mushing yourself? It was a treat to have my own team of dogs for 3 days!! (Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr though....)

Wonderful moose shots. You even made the moose look attractive. Nice exposures.

Thanks Tim - and thank goodness for cute babies!!

JJBub wrote:
Stunning shots, Sue. Tough to select favorites, but I really like #2 and 7 of the moose calf. The shot of the dogs from behind are great - both variations. I guess you were not holding on for those few seconds?!
Also, checked the shots on your website. Fantastic. The movie was interesting too. Thanks for sharing.

Many thanks Cris! Once I got my balance on the sled and the ground was pretty flat, I could hang on with one hand and take pictures/movies with a point and shoot. The two sled pics I posted, though, were from sitting in the basket (first hour of "training") - for the remainder of the three days, I was on my own!

Awesome! Sounds like a tough job you have "working" in Alaska. Any open positions?

Thanks AJ! If you know anything about why hibernation protects the brain from oxygen deprivation, then we have a job for you!! Dress warmly, though!

Susan, what a great set of moose calf pictures and what a cool adventure to hear about! I love the shots from the dog sled -- that must have been an amazing experience!
Chris

Hey Chris, thanks - it was my first chance to photograph a moose, and the dogsledding was a total hoot!

Edward Rotberg wrote:
Wonderful Susan! Just terrific! I knew you loved dogs (as do I), but I didn't realize you were a musher!

Thanks so much, Ed - yes, we're both dog folks, and if you ever have a chance to go dogsledding, it is just a blast. The first day was training, then we had two full days with or own teams of 6 dogs each, including a really beautiful stay in a small cabin overnight. I'd do it again, in a heartbeat!! Way cool.

Thanks Baldur!! And thanks for the pick. Appreciate it!

Great series Susan...just what kind of work do you do that you get to go to Alaska... You are indeed blessed to get that opportunity, and paid for it. I am jealous... 2and 3 are my pics of the series. Well done.

Thanks Shelley!! I am on an advisory committee for a group of neurobiologists at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, and am extremely fortunate not only to get to work with a talented bunch of scientists, but also to be able to fit in a few days of fun after one of our meetings. What an amazing state!

A thousand thanks, Verno! Glad you liked the blur - wish I could have worked that shot a bit longer, I think now that I know exactly how I would have done it, if I had another chance at it. But I got pretty close in round 1!

Sue those are super shots, what a nice healthy looking moose. If all your photographs have that image quality. You have some outstanding memory triggers to take you right back to the spot and second you took them. I like the second shot of the dogs, looking at the first one, I was saying to myself, I would have had them all blurry and shaky. What camera and lens did you use, sorry if the information was there, I can't see it right now writing this post. Plus this is a new lap top and I have not installed the exif viewer yet. Thanks for sharing your photographs.

Hey Tim - Hmmmmmmmm, should I give up my day job?? I must confess that I like my work - but I'm totally flattered that you would suggest that I might be successful in the photog arena!! Thanks!

David Pennell wrote:

Thanks David! I think that the mirror symmetry between the rear dogs is kinda neat in that shot - although, as someone who breeds and shows herding dogs, it really bugs me that they're both pacing rather than trotting! But that certainly doesn't detract from the picture.

Many, many thanks Doug -- I have never been in such cold weather before, and I confess that I was nervous about the elements... But the sledding was SO much fun, and that moose calf was a sweetie!!

Thanks Randal! These were taken with a 1DmkIII at 1600-2000 ISO (handheld), and either a 70-200 zoom (moose shots), or a 17-40 zoom (dog sledding). Thanks for the nice comments!
