OK, there's nothing worse than when I see something I want to shoot & I can't shoot it myself. The other day I was presented with a partially flooded arena for Destined's (my horse) & my work. So I worked him through the water - - just who I am. He was a trooper & we had fun, but all I could think about was how much fun it would be to shoot it. So yesterday I got Ross (my wonderful husband) to shoot it for me. So these shots are basically set up by me (I'm such a control freak), but Ross does make his changes (hummmmm) & I end up working with what's left over.
So here I am doing my other "passion" with my beloved Destined......
OK, I know he cut my head, but a white helmet is not much to look at in the bright sun anyhow, ;-)
fun shots. I like the Hunter/Jumper shots. Not much into Endurance. I used to do Stadium Jumping, but have gone to Dressage with Destined & In Hand with my Shetland stallion RCA Cajun Colt 45 aka ColieOlie.
I'm in the process of going through the 300 some shots my husband took. There are a few winners even from a Dressage point of view. But here the big thing was getting the shots of him working in the water & freezing the water & water action. So Calif Dressage horses & Jumpers rarely see rain & water & especially aren't worked through it.
I'm creating a gallery for these shots here and will be adding shots as I go through them...

I used to be a professional trainer many moons ago (TB's and H/J 's in Santa Barbara and LA) so I sure appreciate seeing you and your horse. What a cool pony!
Maybe when I retire I can get back at it a little, although the camera is taking precedence over my main hobby right now which is training and trialing sheepdogs (border collies).

The little exposure I have gotten to the equine scene has been through me contracting photography for other established photographers and have driven hundreds of miles to photograph the events that I have.
If I were closer to the sport I would really enjoy the photography side of that lifestyle.

I started in Stadium Jumping as a child back home in Sweden. Since then I've done Cross Country Jumping, Combined Training, trained & judged US Pony Clubs & now it's Dressage & In Hand.
Well if you trained on the West Coast you know what I'm dealing with
Isn't he just the most magnificent. ColieOlie jumps over 2 feet on his own - he's only 2,5 & is just amazing. His sister became Pinto 2007 Pinto Reserve World Champion Halter & Roadster so we're expecting big things out of our little guy (44 inches tall).
We had an Aussie who passed away a few years ago, but we do have three dogs out of which two are rescued mutts & a Westie. Border Collies are amazing...
Looks like you got a MUDDER there Lil, nice hobby (or business) Where I lived in the Catskill Mountains I had lots of horses next to my place and a training farm where very rich people kept their kids horses and they trained there. I would go there once in awhile to photograph a pair of red shoulders but some times I got hooked on a horse.

This being Los Angeles & a desert, only now & then. But it was just too fun to ignore. The water that is.
A lot of rich people in horses - we're not. I do this out of our home & mostly on my own, but I do now & then take lessons.
Horses can so draw your attention. Little ColieOlie is a show off & knows how to be the horse to look at. Such a ham....

we do have fun. ColieOlie was afraid of water & would not go into it on the trail. But running lose on his own following Destined like this he ended up playing in the water by himself. So now I can but hope he'll carry that with him on the trail.
It was great fun to get splashed like that.
