I too am very sad to hear of Samie's death. I had corresponded with him on a couple of occasions and knew that he had survived a bout with cancer but I thought that he was on his way to recovering. Hopefully we can find a cure or successful treatment in the near future.

Grant
After a "conversation" with him when he was first ill it was apparent that he knew his condition was terminal and that it was only a question of time. But it seemed he did not let it stop him from getting on with his life. A brave man.

Unfortunately, not yet. I didn't receive an answer from the Artists Showcase.
Today I called and also sent an email to the Darien Public Library, where Samie exhibited his photos last fall. I thought that perhaps they would either allow us to send condolence letters there to be forwarded, or to ask Samie's brother for an address he wouldn't mind having published on the Internet. The Darien library website promises an answer within 24 hours, although if they have to contact the brother, it might take longer.
The Darien Public Library didn't let us down. Here's some of what they sent in their reply:
Local obituaries list his mother and brother as Siv and Omar Safwat of Darien.
Also in the obituary, the family directed that donations be sent to the
Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital,
34 Maple St., Norwalk, CT 06856.
They may be willing to forward a message.
I was also given a street address, but I'm reluctant to post that on the open Internet. If FM members would like to write to Samie's mother and brother, please send me a PM.
Thank you Suzanne. I will be writing the family a letter. Samie was such a great guy - he really made the world a better place. He always put a smile on my face. His family should know how many lives he touched for the better.
