Yes you should sell this to some whiskey brand.
Beautiful country, beautiful shot.

Great shot Martin - I recognise the typical browns of the Glen - well captured

Nice! All I need is this view, a chair and a dram of Lagavulin .

Hello, David.

Thanks for the comment. It was too cold and blustery for the deckchair - but just right for the (large) dram of Lagavulin. We certainly wished that we had a nip of the old "uisge beathe" with us that afternoon - me especially after I trod in the frozen pond on Rannoch Moor!

What a nice place! I like the yellows, browns, and greens in here.
And the blur of the waterfall is just right. There's something I can't
put my finger on: the foreground looks weird, something to do with
the perspective maybe. Or as if painted onto a flat surface. Do
you see what I mean? It's not bad though. I like the overall detail,
a result of the open shade I guess.

Hi, Marc.

I sense what you are talking about in the foreground. I had a look at the original and now feel that I cropped just a little too much off the bottom - the missing bit gives a little more perspective - oh well, we live and learn!

Really nice and moody image, Martin.
Fantastic job capturing the feeling of a blustery Highlands day.
David's got it right!!

Barry

Thanks, Barry.

We'll get up there in November, of course; and we'll take the Lagavulin with us - if you're driving! Glad you enjoyed the image. I wondered if I'd overdone the mood, at first but, as you know, that's difficult to do in the atmospheric glencoe area!

I definitely need to visit my homeland. This is another very nice view. Like the others commented, the mood is super.

Jim

Hello, Jim.

Glad you like it and yes, you should re-visit the ould country. This area, only an hour or so from the centre of Glasgow, is always worth it for the moods and changes that the active weather brings.

Hi, Lance. Thanks for commenting and I'm pleased you liked it.

Beautiful place. Well captured. That waterfall is superbly placed. The two trees accentuate the shot. Well done.

Hi, Tim.

Thanks for the comment. This was my first shot trying out the super-wide - I actually cropped it to get this image . I said to Dimitri at the time that it would be possible to find 100 compositions at this little scene. The waterfall is contained in a sort of bowl and a shot from any angle works. Of course the two trees were the obvious framing.

Hi Martin

Lovely scene, it might help to get some of that orange out of the image, if you could bring out the grey in the rocks and I think it would work better. Maybe all the light reflected off the bracken is providing a colour cast and altering the colour temperature may help in this respect.

What really draws my eye is the scene on the left, it seems to provide enough visual ideas to stand alone. The waterfall is captured beautifully and I think this is the focus of my interest.

I must make it out there one day.

Jane

Hi, Jane. Thanks for the comments. I actually worked the shot to achieve these colours, looking for the Highland/water of life look. As for the compositions, see my comment to Tim, above. I think you should try to visit this area. It's very accessible and has, at the same time, a real wilderness aspect.

Hello Martin,

Beautifully rugged terrain. Well captured.

Thanks, Hugh. This is typical of the Highland wilderness - seen at it's best and most rugged in winter.

You made my day . Perfect comment!

Thanks, Stefan. I'm pleased this made people think of Lagavulin.....or Ardbeg, or Laphraoig, or Bowmore........the flavours of the Highlands. :malt: :malt:

Karl

Hello, Karl.

Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the shot. Give us a bell when you retire and we'll arrange a party up here in the glens for you! Should be no problem getting about, knowing your hiking propensities!

Hello Martin,

I am relatively new to this forum. I have never seen your work before.

I like this photo very much. Something about it strikes me as 'otherworldly.'

Think there are any trout in that stream?

Steady Hand

Hi, SH.

Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed the image. Scotland is a very other-wordly place and is, of course well known for salmon, although I don't know about fishing in general - there must be trout in the strea, and, of course there is venison (on the hoof) all through the glen.

JimFox wrote:
Hey Martin,

Cool stuff! I wish I was there to hear the bubbling of the stream...

Jim

Hey, Jim.

I like the idea of the bubbling of the stream plus the gurgle of the Islay - not over ice, of course - but the prevailing sound was the chattering of teeth.

Klaus Priebe wrote:
Martin,
Nice work. I like the tree on the right. Very cool looking.

Hi, Klause.

The trees in this glen are beautiful and have that weary, weather-beaten look. Many of the nice spots on the river are framed with trees. This frame of the large tree and the small tree is particularly satisfying, when you are looking for a comp. Thanks for your comment.
