Alright, Jeff! Let's hope that they fix it properly this time. BTW, do you want to mod this forum again, Jeff, please, please? They are too many 1D MarkIII threads that could easily be merged for my taste..... . Practically 50% of threads on the first page pertains to the MarkIII (I maybe exaggerating a little ). I started loosing track what I posted where.....

Ok Joe, I don't want to pinch the OP, but I must be dumb today and that happens alot, so why swap targets, are you saying that a 5D and a 1D have to take different pictures else one them will never focus .
Please forgive me if the answer should be staring me in the face, I just can't work it out, I am not pulling your leg I really don't understand the answer.
Bob
I'm sure the OP was trying to eliminate variables just in case there was something unique with the first target that "could have" caused or exacerbated the focus problem. So, the targets were changed by OP but the basic problem remained, thus completely eliminating the original target as a potential source of the problem.
FWIW I have some black AF targets printed against white, red, green, blue, magenta, yellow, and cyan backgrounds. Background color as well as spatial frequency can be an issue (e.g. an issue back in the 10D days). I don't own a 1DmkIII and have no clue regarding the sensitivity of the AF system to background color.

Ahem, uh, no?
If I'd been moderating the Canon Forum through all this, I wouldn't have had the time to do all the shooting I did and learn all that I have about the MkIII's rather volatile existence.
Then again, maybe I would have been better off not knowing, but, ahem... uh, NO!
Thanks for the kind words though, you guys are doing a great job of moderating yourselves, so far...

PS: I still get PMs from people who still don't know that I don't moderate anymore...
