I had a similar experience with my D30 last night. I was shooting a wrestling match where the exposures ranged from 1/500 near the match-light to 1/60 away from it. Suddenly the camera would only expose at 1/2000 or 6 stops or so away from the correct exposure. This happened for about 5 seconds and then was done.
I don't have copies of the shots with me.
I couldn't explain it. Most other metering problems in Av can be explained by looking at the rest of the image, but this one couldn't.
Maliketh I shot almost the entire game this way and I just looked and the center point was on a white or lighter color shot on some but on one it was on darker hair. But why only these 8 in a row if I shot 95% of the game like this? I'll still have Canon look at this when I send it in.
I've seen a handful of these on the 1DsMKII. Mostly extreme underexposure for no apparent reason. Very very rare and when it happens, I turn the camera off and back on, the problem is gone. It may not reoccur again for months. I haven't corelated it with any particular lens, but I'm wondering if it may actually be the lens causing the problem.
