good to hear that the 24 is as sharp as the 35L
Most people wouldn't say that. With my two copies - the 24L was one of the very first manufactured back last millennium, 35L is 2 years old - the 35L is sharper wide open, but later on the gap narrows.
I have limited experience with the 24L, only about 500 shots, from f/1.4 to f/1.8. I have thousands through my 35L.
The 24L was not as sharp as my 35L, but other samples may be different. Still, it was certainly a sharp lens that opens up a lot of possibilities, just like the 35L. Very unique lenses, with their combo of aperture, fast AF, and image quality.
I would never part with my 35L, it's my favorite lens ... now I'm trying to decide whether I want the 45 TS-E, or the 24L... so hard!
I have both and use them both a lot on my 20d. It really depends on whether you need the 24mm focal length for your style of shooting. Optically they are both outstanding. Zooms are great but no zoom will replace this type of lens. Here is the 24mm at F1.4. DOF is miniscule.
