I looked at the 1 in. version, but I like a wider strap. With the 70-200mm a 1 in. strap really digs into my shoulder after a couple of hours, so the wider the better. The 1.5 gripper will be perfect if I can get the QR removed.
Believe me, I have looked. Do a search and see if you can find a strap that will:
1. Handle a pro camera and lens
2. Not neoprene
3. Does not have a logo plastered like a billboard across it.
4. Does not have a QR
I think you will be hard pressed to find one. The domke is the closest I have found and if
I have to throw away 5 bucks worth of hardware I don't think I will miss it to much
I tried the UPstrap, but found it to be uncomfortable and too sticky. I think the Domke is what I have been looking for, it will just require a little modification.
Sometimes, you just have to modify to get what you need. I have a point and shoot that came with a leather neck strap I found to be a bit scratchy on the back of the neck. The point and shoot made it impossible to find a third party strap due to the limited size of the fixing on either side of the camera. The included strap was all there was, unless I wanted to get a wrist strap for it. An old computer case provided very thin neoprene I needed to fashion a tube through which I fed the strap, which now has a comfortable feel around the neck.
Wow thanks for posting this because I was just about to I don't like the way the OEM strap is pulled at such an extreme angle on the camera body. Seems like those two metal loops should be on the back side of the camera instead of the top. I'm happy with the strap as long as I get some heavy duty key rings to put on there then connect the strap to them.
Domke straps are good, nice compromise between being sticky enough but not so much that you cannot get it off your shoulder in a hurry. Quick release straps are very nice...you get used it and don't want to go back.
