Can someone take a picture through the back of the lens at 3.4 to show what the blades should look like?

thanks

I always do that with all my lenses

seriously that sounds like you got a pretty much downbeaten copy of a lens. You should never see the the blades on a Zeiss lens when the aperture is set to the fastes stop. Sorry

I bought one a couple of months ago and sold it again, the lens looked terrible but the performance was great and there was no problem in using it. I sold it later as I had too much of that stuff around 50mm. Today all these lenses are so freaking cheap that you can go for the better lenses only and pay 10-20% more than what you have to pay for a wrecked lens

I received a 35-70 that was advertised in like new condition, but the focus was stiff in the 7-12ft range or so, and when focused at 10ft it wouldn't zoom in from 35mm. Anyone have problems like this?

This is very strange. Zooming and focus damping should be the same throughout the range, except when you're in macro mode at 35mm only. I find the damping to a bit less nice compared to damping outside of the macro function.

Also, I am not sure that the aperture was opening all the way, I could still see the blades when at 3.4, and I couldn't see it on any of my other lenses when opened all the way. Can someone take a picture through the back of the lens at 3.4 to show what the blades should look like? Also, when I shook the lens I could hear a slight jingling (Aperture blades?). Anyone have this?

I can see the blades a bit if I really angle the lens and look as far as possible into the inside sides of the lens. I can see them more from the front of the lens than from the mount end. I can hear a slight jingling sound on my copy. It doesn't sound like there is something floating around inside the lens; rather it sounds like the vibration of a piece that needs to move around during zooming or focus, and thus isn't fully clamped down inside the lens.

Overall, if I had the copy you have, I'd probably send it back.

Ok, I did send it back, but they asked me to list everything that was wrong with the lens, I wanted to make sure I listed everything correctly. They say they are sending me a replacement, I am afraid of an incompetent tech fixing it and screwing something else up and sending the same lens back. It came with a sticker that indicated it was a floor model and had been refurbished by a tech before being sent to me. I have little confidence in them at this point. They are either liars or incompetent. Who knows what I will receive this time.

...although, secretly I hope it is an honest mistake...
