These are great photos. I like the low perspective you have on Elowah Falls. The last time I was there I chost the perspective from th large boulder on the left. Both shots are spectacular, and would make great wall hangers...

I have been looking for the answer to this question for quite a while now and this looks like my best shot for a solution to my query. I use a Canon 5D with a Canon 17-40 when shooting landscapes. I use a Lee filter system and I have a 3 stop hard a 3 stop soft and a 2 stop soft GND filter in my current collection. Here is the question in which an answer thus far has eluded me. I want to use a circular polarizer at the same time I have the GND on the lens. Lee sells a circ pol filter that is 105mm. Marc, I see that you used a vari-ND, a circ pol, and a 3 stop GND......all at the same time!!! I would love to do this.....but......before investing in the equipment..........I was under the impression that vignetting would be very dramatic on the photos with all of those stacked filters. If you can tell me from first hand experience that a multifilter set-up such as the one you used does not cause vignetting.....then I am going to place the order asap. I have asked the question in other forums and have literally received no answers.
Most captivating work. I am with Barry and Tomas. I like the first best, there is a very special glow all about it that feels really good; the whole view is shrouded in magic. In the second photo I would prefer a faster shutter on the falls in the BG, as it is just a white ribbon, yet I understand that this would change how the FG looks.

What a pair!!!! I tend to favor the 1st just a tad more though. Thanks for the tips on the handheld filters, got to give it a try.

What a wonderful set of image, both just beautiful, but the last one just overwhelms the senses. So very very nice, and thanks for the information about the ND filters, I had used them for a couple of years shooting Digital IR, but had never heard the use in not only allowing for more depth of field and lighting, but the decreasing of the flaring was too much!!

Tom, when shooting full frame at 17mm, my Hoya HMC Pro wide angle polarizer will not vignette - and it's a very fine piece of glass - I definitely recommend it. However, I didn't shoot those test frames at 17mm. A screw-on multi-filter system will vignette when used on a full frame 17mm.

Not sure if this is the answer you were looking for but I use the same Lee holder system and I also have their glass polarizer that you mentioned. Last weekend I shot this image. http://www.pbase.com/al_b/image/77425967/original
I used my 17-35AFS Nikon lens with this image with a 2 stop hard grad + warming polarizer and then finally the polarizer stacked in the holder. As long as you place the polarizer in the last postion I have not experience any vignetting in stacking filters.

Mark didn't want to hijack your thread. Love the result of both of these images and have made a note to experiment on moving the filter quickly into shooting into the sun to compare the results. Al B

I so appreciate your response to my question Marc. Your work has been an inspiration and yours thoughts and advice are important to me.
Well I am not going to praise these too much, needless to say they are completely immaculate in every way and one day I will buy a print or two! Your work is really something to aspire to.
