Great capture Al, the motion effect is terrific.
It would be great if you could repeat the shot and include the first car or engine to improve the shot even more…
John - I did catch the front end on a couple frames, but I think my shutter speed (1/10) was a little too long for the speed of this train. Hence, too much blur on the front end. The side view looked better to me. Unfortunately, you only get one setup per train and it is all trial and error for me. I'll see if I can't nab a better shot tomorrow.
Steve - I too am still just learning- that's what this is all about for me.

This one is vastly better than the first one, Al! Great capture! The motion is really perfect! I'll bet this will make the finals!
All the best,
Endre
By the way - Who's photo is in your little "Meadowlark" thumbnail? Obviously not you - but it's a wonderful photo.
Thanks much Endre. I learned a lot on this one. I just wish the CA sky were not so bland. I did a composite, with some nice clouds, but it was hurried and I won't post it unless I have time to do it right.
The young woman in my thumbnail is from a little fishing village in Cambodia. Glad you like it. There are more shots of her and others here: http://www.pbase.com/meadowlark/cambodia

Al.....this is a great entry. The train blur is just perfect. It reminds me of all the trains I have
missed as they went whizzing by!!

Thanks Patty, getting the blur right was my main goal for this shot. I used 1/25 shutter here and I think the train was probably doing about 40 or 50mph.
