Similar in performance to the Zeiss 200mm f4.0 Tele-Tessar, which is essentially an update of the lens in question to make it smaller and more compact (hence the drop from f3.5 to f4.0).
It generally has all the qualities we come to expect in the Zeiss lens. Still, it may not be the overall sharpest lens available in its focal length, but it is certainly sharp enough and finds it following in the other aspects of image quality (and in the case of the f4.0 version, it's compact size and weight)
I Have Probably The Sharpest 200mm ... EF 200mm f1.8
But It Is Heavy, And Not Ideal For All Things...
This Sounds Like An Ideal Backup, Alternate Choice...
Have you tried the Canon 200mm F2.8 II? I bought one after selling the 200/1.8 and was quite surprised at how good the F2.8 was. F2.8 would allow for better AF too (cross sensors engaged).
I Have Owned 3 Copies Of The 200mm f2.8
And Was Disappointed In All Of Them....
I Even Found My Latest Copy Of The 70-200mm f2.8 Zoom Better...
But Not By Much... I Really Am/Was Prime Blind, Till I Bought My 17-35 N
And It Changed Many Things... Since Them I Have Test The 70-200, 28-80
& 24-85 N's And Love Their Zeissness... Hopefully They Will Stand Up To Their Conversions ...
From All Indications, They Will...
