thanks for the explanations. so, i compared shots done with the N at the same ISO (200), daylight (so speed around 2500, f 4.0) in the same stadium (different days). I am using the 'get info' from my apple to find the file size and it does round at the .1 level.
While jpeg is a standard compression technique, I suspect Canon has latitude on what a "10" or lower jpeg setting is--thus maybe they optimized it down from the 8 mega cameras. Really no problem, but I do remember when going from the 1D to the 1D 2's there was a huge change in file size--but it was a doubling then. Even shooting a 1Ds vs a 1d 2, the Ds had a bigger jpeg file. I went thru the book last night to see if I had done something in the custom settings to cause the lack of increased file size, but so far haven't found it. thanks again for you explanations.
There are several reports from 1D3 users about this issue with their new cam. Has anyone here some experience with the "error 99" problem with their 1D3 or other bodies like the 20D and 30D. What has Canon done about it?
Does anyone know what factors into when a store gets their Mark III's. I am number one on the list at my local camera shop and he says he has no idea when they are coming in. If it was not for the big deposit I gave him I think it might be wise to go elsewhere.
I'm reading posts were people are saying their local shop got shipments of 10, 20 or more bodies ... my local shop is waiting for one .. MINE !!!!
I'm trying to scroll through all 19 AF points, but I'm only getting the horizontal points at the moment.
When I set C. Fn3-9 to either 1 or 2, I get the 9 inner or 9 outer as expected and am able to scroll through them with the Quick Control dial (as set by me). However, on setting 0 of that, I'm just getting the horizontals. Does anyone have any idea what I''m missing? I'm having a blonde evevning.

Have you turn the on off switch to the second setting so that the quick control dial is active?
I think most Canon shooters have encountered the Err 99 at least once since owning their camera. My Digital Rebel displayed this to me twice, my 20D has done it a couple of times when using the vertical battery grip, and I returned my 1D Mark II because of repeted Err 99's from the day of purchase.
Since it is their catch all error code, anything from your battery being bad, to lens contacts being dirty, to fatal shutter failure can trip that code.
Typically, removing the battery and re-installing it clears the code. On my 20D, removing and replacing the grip does it.
Hey Kenn & Susie, Can't wait to see your images with this one. I am on a local list, I guess that soon there will be much more availability! Once we get them maybe we just need to blitz DIC wit MKIII images! I think that they are just in transition, hope that it pulls through!
I'm in the same boat as you...I'm number 1 on a local dealer's list here in the Midwest and he has not even received 1 unit. I just don't understand how Canon picks what dealer gets the cameras first. My local dealer has an excellent credit history with Canon, yet so far no 1D Mark III's. I put a deposit down back in early March.
Yeh, Pepperman (Stuart Sounds good! If we ever get the cameras. I know B&H's voice mail by heart..calling them every day while waiting for Tallyn's e-mail !

At the current rate Tallyn's is getting the 1D3, you may have a better chance of hitting B&H's call-in lottery for one...
P.S.: I'm a few spots higher that you on the list.
CS2 does not and will not support the DIII raw. You could convert them DNG with the Adobe DNG convert and then CS2 could open them. CS3 supports the DIII.
