Out of all of the things that people say are heavy I will never figure out how a flash bracket is the one that is just too heavy. Mine wieghs about the same as a battery pack. I am just teasing you guys, however it isn't that bad if you get a simple one.

I have to agree, at least to some extent. It also depends on which bracket you use, but if you pick up the stroboframe flip bracket by itself...that thing weighs practically nothing. The weight is clearly due to... the camera body - with battery pack - with two batteries in it - with a 70-200 - with a flash on top of it all.

Exactly. If I can pack my 5D and 300 f/2.8 around in the woods
these little flash brackets should be a walk in the park...
I used to use a bracket--but the thing was just way too bulky for my taste. I don't use direct flash anyways (ever at all) so I'm not sure why I would want to move my on-camera strobe off-axis.. bounce flash is bounce flash, after all. But I have a PW mounted on the hotshoe more often than not.
keith,
I use the camera flip by stroboframe, and it's fast, there is a lever mechanism that allows you to flip the camera from horizontal to verticle (keeping the flash above the lens at all times). They are affordable and lightweight. I looked at other brackets (like custom brackets - http://www.adorama.com/CBQRSFD.html) but they are just too big and bulky for me. Here's a link of what I have (it's on the right hand side) http://www.tiffen.com/Stroboframe_ProRL_page.htm

I've been using the Pro-T from stoboframe with my gripped 5D, works very well. I'm probably going to try the Press-T when I get the chance as to making the setup a little compact would be nice, but not a need.
Another few advantages to brackets are reduced red-eye on the longer telephoto lengths and more possibilitys to bounce in the vertical position.
I've heard alot of good things about RRS brackets, for that price, you should.
At this point I can't really justify spending that much when other brkts are a quarter the price. Maybe once I have all the gear I want, I will look into it more.
really right stuff (rrs) had a custom bracket. the pj... to heavy for me. plus pain in my left side. switched to the rrs. smooth look for me. breaks down in my bag. & it broke my wallet. they are always on back order too. nice people to call though. the new owner walked me through everything. thier customer service def won me over.
I've been using the CB Jr. It's relatively lightweight and very well built. I like the flip style better than those that rotate the camera. I'm pleased with my choice.
