One of my favourite places. I grew up nearby and spent a lot of time camping in the fields around the Castle. Built by William the Conqueror after 1066, reduced to its current state by the English Civil War, in 1646.
Took some extra shots with my Holga, but don't know if I'll have time to develop them by tomorrow.

Wonderful shot Suse. The contrast is wonderful and I love how you can see the small elevation changes in the path up to the entrance. I really like the fence/gate in foreground too.

Beautiful image, composition and everything!
It's excellent. Too bad you didn't have any dramatic clouds to go along with it. But, still superb nonetheless.
Great composition, textures, and all the details mentioned by others.
What you've done with the foreground fence is wonderful as well.
I love this!
Brava!
Beautiful photo. Love how the clean, shiny path leads you up to the castle and then you realize its leading into nothingness. Also like the symmetry of the fence and the walls of the castle.
Yet another excellent shot, Sue! Bravo! I knew the moment it showed up in the thumbnail that it was yours. Your B & W's are always so distinctive. Great work, as usual! As others have already said, the fence in front really makes it pop, but beyond that, I think it is your capture of the texture of the overcast sky that makes this so riveting.
BTW, how are you liking your 5D now that you've had it awhile? I pine for one, myself, but just can't afford it. Eventually, perhaps...
Very nice shot of a beautiful place ! Solid composition.
To be picky I would say I found the sharpening a little too much for my taste (making it more documentary and less moody to me).
Thanks for the comment, Christian! I really appreciate it. Yes, I liked the gate - it looked so feeble, held together with string. A bit of a relic itself!

Thanks for the comment, Tim. Yes, getting the English weather to co-operate is bad enough at the best of times! Getting it to do so in the space of a week is damn near impossible!

Hi Jess
Thanks. I've been trying to work on composition of late. It's not my greatest strength. I'm glad to like it!
