I was so lucky to get this shot, at our previous residence we had this hawk who would swoop down and get birds all the time. One day I'm in the house and he flies through so my girlfriend calls me out to see but he is gone already, or so I think. She tells me she thinks he is still around somewhere because he didn't fly off at full speed, so I say yeah, yeah. I go back in to get the camera just in case, and I come out and she says he's right over here. I peak around the scrub tree and there he sits on this dead tree, which btw is great for taking shots of birds. So I turn on camera, set it to auto for times sake and focus and shoot, just enough time to get one shot before he flies off. A very lucky shot indeed.
Hey guys...as you can tell from my post count, I'm completely new here!
I was drawn to this thread first because I really love wildlife photography. The photographs in this thread are completely amazing...I find them both inspiring and intimidating. Unfortunately I was not able to shoot much wildlife this year. Nevertheless, it was still a hard choice. I decided to go with this one, because most of you seem to be pretty partial to feathers...
So many excellent images here and like others it's hard to pick a favorite or one I consider a best for 2006 but here are a couple of my favorites from Africa.
This is my first post on this forum, and while i do like to look occasionally, i rarely have time to post on a regular basis. I'd say the following shot is my favorite (best) of 2006, although clearly, it is not the best technically, and the lighting was lousy, it is a rare shot and the profile was just perfect. Hope you enjoy...Keith
Here are two photos I took in July this year.
The Peacock was displaying all the time, but I only had a 90mm fixed focal lens and I was pressed up against a fence so I couldn't get all of his feather's in the photo.
This is my favorite of 2006 because of the color. Makes me happy. The image that I probably got the most excited about was my first shot of an otter - I'm still jazzed about that but it just isn't that great technically.

Got this shot at the local bird sanctuary here in Vancouver. I crouched down low with a 17mm lens with a CPL attached and fired away.
