Mmm...Not entirely. I have a copy of the 24 L that is only a trace less sharp than the 35L. I would sell the 35 before the 24. Most don't give the 24 a chance as it is not as flat field as the 35. If you focus an object in the very corner of the 24 wide open ( at least with mine ) it will be sharp, very sharp for that matter.
Would you mind sharing the exif data on that last one?

The 24L is also high on my list of gotta-have-it lenses. I owned one briefly but needed to sell it to get my 35L. I thought the image quality was absolutely stellar on my 10D.
Got my 5D afterall. It's a lot slower in focusing than the 1DMKII I had. With mirrow lockup, it is easier to get shake-free shots with good shutter speeds but the trade off is the shutter lag...horrible shutter lag. I decided against the primes and got a 24-70 f2.8 instead. This copy is sharp at 24mm and 70mm at f2.8.
As subject matter moved away from focus, it is harder to track, compared with the 1D2. But, Image wise, the 5D produces way way better pics than the 1D2 ever did. pictures are crisp sharp and colours out of cam in RAW were way better with picture styles than the 1D2. I was spoilt by the superior AF before with the 1D2. Now I just got to train myself up on predicting shots and pre-AF first.
Full frame is great! Never had I used the 24-70 for what it should be at the wide end...but on tele, the 70mm was now a tad shorter. Now I can see the 3D pop in the pics and the creamy bokeh is more pronounced with the FF sensor.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "It's a lot slower in focusing than the 1DMKII I had."? I've had two copies of the 1DM2 and their AF was consistent with the 5D. The difference for me is the 5D is MUCH more accurate, adding to the sharper images you're seeing (sensor quality is also a factor).
Anyhow, if you could explain what you mean by slow focusing and "horrible shutter lag" I'd appreciate it. I've seen the exact opposite and am wondering if I got lucky with my copy of the 5D or something...

What I meant was the 1D2 had instantaneous focusing. Although in bright day light, the speed advantage of the 1D2 was somewhat reduced but still apparent. I have the 24-70 and used it on both. The 1D2 is faster.
I also noticed the 5D was more accurate, perhaps something to do with the focusing mechanism of tracking contrast areas. The 1D2 seems to lack it there and failed to focus when the contrast was insufficient in the subject matter.
Coming to tracking moving objects....no 5D loses hands down.
With mirror lockup, I am surprised that the first trigger pushes up the mirror and to get the shot you got to press again?
