OK, these are the last of my object and sharpness test shots for the 50L f/1.2. Gallery #4.
These are similar to some of my previous tests. However, this time the camera was at exactly 45 degrees to the test objects. This showed more of the objects in a slice of the range of DOF. The objects were approx. 3 feet away from the camera.
I am more of a technical person and just a hobby snapshooter photographer....so I will leave the 50L f/1.2 in other's more capable photographic hands for test shots of people, places, etc. I'll look forward to seeing others tests.
It will also be interesting to see real scientific lens test results, like the kind Mr. Castleman does.
As a summary, I am personally well pleased with the new 50L. While I don't think it is a perfect lens, in my opinion it certainly seems to be a good performer and a reasonable compromise between price and performance.
OK, I didn't want to kill my bandwidth so I trough up 10 images from this morning at http://www.flickr.com/groups/canonef50mm12/ These are 30D + 50/1.2L straight out of camera, shot in RAW and converted without PP in ACR, ARGB > sRGB and saved as jpeg at 12, then uploaded.
Needless to say, this is not normally how I would workflow and PP my images, but I thought I'd share a few more quickly as I'm home with the boys at 2 out of 3 have a cold, thus we're doing indoor activities for now.
I'd say this lens is a winner. AF seems to be on par with the 50/1.4 (I did get some hunting at this, but that may just be me or my lowly 30D), it is completely usable wide-open and important to me: it makes for a rather small and powerful package on a 30D - the lens is shorter than a 35/1.4L but wider, it balances very nicely without a grip and the build quality is L-glass all the way.
I'm sure it will come down in price after x-mas but I'm happy I got one now as I needed a 50 prime. I'll definitely have lots of fun with this lens.
well, some people like big glass. i don't. the 85/1.2 is just too darn big/bulky/heavy for my taste. a 30D + 50/1.2L is a far more attractive package to me than a 5D+85/1.2L.
Doesn't hurt that the jr package is $2,500, which is basically the cost of the 5D alone...
I really hope that isn't the case...as you were doing many people here a huge favor by showing your test results. Hopefully, its just a problem with your host or something. Keep us informed and best of luck getting your site fixed.
Madmax: appears you use an interactive online server of some kind, so I guess just downloading a backup of the website is out of the question. I guess what I'm saying is have you thought of making your own dedicated website to avoid this kind of frustration? Sorry I didn't get to see the 50mm f1.2 pix.
I hate to squeal on anyone, but I think that the website simply exceeded its quota and so at some point the page pointed to an upgrade page. Don't expect a free site to burn bandwidth completely unlimited. And do expect 50/1.2L images to suck up a lot of bandwitdh, especially if they get linked at a lot of photo sites.

Its an Apache server running mysql/php. I had gallery 2.2 loaded on it. I guess someone found a hole. I like gallery but it can be a handfull.
Why would anyone want to hack your site? I mean it ain't the Pentagon they were screwing with. Maybe it was a Nikon crazie They say Nikon cameras make people do weird things.
By the way. Gators are #2 and will play , uh beat, OSU
all of your photos look exactly the same as the ones you took with your 85 f1.2 L
there is no difference. how are you supposed to be able to tell what the image quality is like when your looking at photos of the dude working at the camera shop you tried the lens at and then sized to web?
