Thanks. Occasionally what my mind sees and what I get with the camera match and that F-15 shot is what you get. Then when a four ship makes four passes and pull outs like that, you are bound to get one that works.
Welcome! Went to your www. , great work! I know the guy that built up the yellow Agcat in some of your images. The aircraft was modeled after my good friend Gene Soucy's "Show Cat". The owner picked it up in McKinney, Texas and flew it home to Sweden or somewhere. Those baby's can really blow some smoke. We've toyed with the idea of putting smoke on the Six but we're afraid the field would be IFR every we came and went, and of course the $400 worth of Corvus oil we'd burn every hour is of some consideration. Gosh, maybe that would take my mind off the cost of an hour's worth of 100LL?!
Yes, I did use a circular polarizer to take care of the worst of the reflections due the harsh light.
And Yes, we DO have lots of pollution here, coming from all over the Europe !
I have been a fan of this thread for a long time. I am amazed and a bit envious at times of the talent of the photographers. Jim your words and images are a true reflection of Gods grace. Thanks to all for the inspiration.
I appreciate your thoughtful comments. It is my fondest hope that in some small way I do reflect the Grace that has been shown me and as Paul said, "the hope that is within us".
I went to your www. Outstanding work!! No need to be envious!! Your talent for getting right in there and capturing the emotion of sport is really unique. The composition and flow of your site is very well done, nicely done all around!! We're not real stuck on adhering to the prescribed subject matter in this thread so please stay with us and let's see more of your work. The skills you have honed so well in your sports photography would be greatly appreciated in our thread, welcome, and thanks again for your kindness.
I'm building a gallery at SmugMug for people who would like to have display prints of my landscape and aviation work, but don't have the need for the more expensive limited edition Ciba prints. You can view the images available for print at:

While I am waiting for GML for an op to shoot airplanes... i took an assignment to shoot an old folks retirement community. Shot this Friday morning and now that I have it - i wish i could go back and shoot several throughout the day for an HDR. The rest of the picts just wouldn't fit here -so I'll restrain it to this one... http://jonberryphoto.smugmug.com/photos/188705458-L.jpg
Thanks Pardner! Glad you liked the gallery, I think SmugMug does a good job for a reasonable annual fee. I've been looking for a venue like that for a while. I shoot every one of my Grandchildren's soccer, basketball and baseball games. When they aren't on the field/court I shoot whatever looks good and all the parents have been asking me to see the shots. SmugMug in concert with Adobe Lightroom makes it a pretty easy task to process and post a couple of hundred shots from each game. I don't ever have to touch them again and everybody's happy. I keep those galleries password protected so just the parents can acces them, but the general public can't.
That's a nice shot of the retirement community, very serene. I haven't had much success with HDR I even ought "Photomatix" because it looked like a good program, but I haven't gotten much from it. There are a number of situations where I could really use the technology, but it isn't working for me so far.
Tick-Tock for GML, it'll be here before we know it. My plans have changed a bit because Butch got an itch to fly the King Air to Europe over those dates. I'll either fly my 182 up or take AA if the weather looks too dicey. I'm coming in late morning on Thursday one way or another.
I look forward to seeing you and meeting your Dad.
JW
P.S. I won't tell Paul, he tries really hard ya know.
Thanks Jim,
i was there a little early to drive around the community and when I crossed the dam at that end of the lake and saw the sunrise, i had to jump out of the truck and snap off two ro three shots. Its just reworked a bit in PS2 to lighten the tree line and buildings. Had I been able to tripod it and wait for the light to change it might have made a good HDR subject. They were happy with it and so I'm happy.
I noticed several duplicates in your new site and wonder if that is by design? Seems like a good idea - cause it may draw people to go ahead and buy an extra one since its on the same page and not have to go back and get it once you're off and you can't remember which page it is on. There are a bunch of great shots - but something about that one is classic!
I'm not really big on filters and effects that weren't there to begin with, but every once in a while I pull out my NIK filter plug ins and if you adjust them subtly, you can do some pretty neat things. I use them especially when the sky has not cooperated with me. NIK software is a bit pricey, but when you need it, you need it.
hmmm - i may have to get a copy of that software. I'd probably go about half way between yours and mine - but that is definitely the effect I'd like to get out of PS2! Thanks for the heads up on NIK software!
The difference might just be in our monitor calibration. The effect I added was very subtle on my cinema monitor but could well be over powering on another. NIK hasn't updated their software to work on the Intel Mac processors yet so I can't run it on my Intel MacBook Pro. I have several of their programs including NIK Sharpener Pro. They're about $300 each but I've found the NIK Color Effects Pro to be a real life saver on occasion. I'm with you though, I add just barely enough to close in a washed out sky or something, nothing very strong. The only filters I've used in the whole program are a couple of graduated varieties. If I'm on my toes, God's work is usually beautiful enough and I don't need to add to it.
300 is a lot - but if it is useful its worth it. I get to shoot from the sidelines tomorrow night and i wish i had a Mark III and a 400... now that is pricey! I'll struggle through with my 20D and the 300 2.8 - but this little hobby is gittin' spensive!
Since we'll be standing in the stands for GML - which in your experience makes the most sense - the 300 2.8 or the 100-400 4.-5.6? I like the reach of the zoom - but you can't beat the speed and sharpness of the 300. Just trying to figure out what I'm taking to the party.
Do the NIK plug-ins not work at all under an Intel Mac or just a bit slower?
Thanks for the info Jim.
