Beautiful work Guys! Rodolfo, don't be disheartened by your keeper rate, the 100-400 is a great tool but not nearly as quick as the 70-200/2.8 when in auto-focus mode. My keeper rate was down a bit this year too, partly the MKIII growing pains and then the mediocre skies and light. Still it was a great week. I regret not being able to get together with you though!
My loss mostly... but fear not, we'll have that dinner sooner or later. By the way, were you thinking of the Canon 100-400 when you wrote that, or the Nikon 200-400? I have the Nikon, but I can't tell from the context whether it's a typo or whether you were discussing the Canon lens.

Your shot of Sean is very good [...] the center is sharp and your shutter speed was at a point where you got a little motion in the wing tips, actually very nice.
Thank you! The original (unreduced) shot is actually a little better, with every letter of his name being clearly legible. I was quite delighted with that shot, I just haven't found much else of that quality yet from that day's harvest. But I'll build myself a good stock of images anyway, one picture at a time!
Off-topic: with the stock market's sharp drop over the last week or so, I find myself in a bit of a tight spot. So I've decided to sell my "new-to-me" Nikon 200-400 VR lens, purchased less than six weeks ago from Gary Steele here on FM.
I've just activated my subscription to Buy & Sell, but I'm told it'll take 1-2 days to become available so I decided to post a note here as well. Sorry for the quick "commercial" aside, y'all... hopefully no one is offended, and I'll go back to posting pictures now!
Sorry about the financial pinch, these are roller coaster times for sure. I'll check some folks I know to see if I can help you move your lens. Nice shot! Lots going on!!

But that's half the fun of the whole process! Welcome, and let's see what you're shooting.
JW
some people shoot sports.
some shoot weddings or portraits.
still others specialize in capturing their reflection in a bug's eye, and some will never condescend to record color...
but, at the end of the day, a great photographer is a great photographer, and anything is fair game.
I used to be very committed to using a manual camera - one not even having a built it light meter. I thought "if i don't think it through and do it myself, it isn't really mine." That was in the days when one of my friends had just bought an AE1 and would compare his shots to mine. He said photography was easy - set it on auto and click away. He did get a few good shots that way - but still I persisted with my view.
Another friend went off to study at the Art Students League in New York and when he came back he made fun of us both. Said art is still art even if the photographer just threw the camera at the wall and accepted whatever the shutter may or may not have recorded. That the skill and technique (or the lack thereof) wasn't as important as the resulting image.
That was over 25 years ago and I still am resistant to use the program mode and I feel its cheating to use auto focus, aperture or shuttter priority and multipoint metering... but now with the wisdom of age - I wouldn't want to do without it either. In fact I'm still chomping at the bit to buy a Mark II or III.
Nothin' permanent but change" they say!
Shoot... anything and everything any way you want to! Abstracts are terribly boring in B/W - which in many ways is a medium of old for the days when newspaper presses only printed in black ink halftones.
OK, back to aircraft! Shots I took from the ground this past weekend.. Still working on my panning for sharp pics.. 30D, Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS, TV around 320-400, iso100, if I remember right... Enjoy, btw, we get better fly by's than the airshows do :P
Been a while since I posted any aircraft - so I thought I'd look through and see if I had anything to contribute. Hope one day I'll gain the expertise of all y'all. These are from my first air show last year. I wished it would have been a blue sky day.
Its taken a few days, but I have finally "absorbed" all the talent that is in this thread, all I can say is "Gentlemen, terrific work." I humbly add my first contribution to this thread, three shots from Memorial Day Weekend in Farmingdale, NY
