Rodolfo is off to Africa, but before he left he was kind enough to take time from his busy schedule to begin organizing a lunch or dinner for us at AirVenture. I think it's probably going to be a last minute deal that we put together at the field. The dawn patrol idea didn't gather much interest which is a little disappointing, but ok, because my schedule is filling up pretty fast and I've got a couple of large groups to lead during the week.
Hope to see some of you at the event and if it works, we'll try to have dinner or something one night.
My good Buddy Bryan Martin orchestrated this shoot, and did a fine job! Thanks Bryan!!
This got me fired up about GML 2007. Better order some more 16 gb smart cards. I picked up my MKIII this morning, what a piece of technology that camera is! I've got mine set up with a 4gb sd and a 16 gb main card, which gives me 800+ shots before I need to reload. Canon has done it again, and I just can't believe the 1Ds MkIII is very far behind this one.
I just put my "Round Engine Sounds" on and enjoy the Mitchell, all the more. This is the best collection of aircraft, I have ever seen. I have been following, from the start. Jim, Your gallary awaits.
Tom
Good hearing from you, thanks always for your kind comments. I'd like to do a gallery, just don't know if a guy could make a go of it. I've always wanted to do a one man show, ,maybe sponsored by an aviation related company, airline, something. It's my fault that I haven't done it yet, I don't lay my camera down long enough to knock on the doors necessary. I find myself in an odd position at 58, I've been very blessed to rise to the upper levels of my chosen field, but there are still so many things I'd like to do. Balancing between my love for this business, my wonderful wife and five beautiful Grandchildren is a very difficult thing. It's a great problem to have, but I don't ever want to regret that I didn't give all I had to each of those important facets of my life. So many blessings, still just 24 hours in a day!
I've said it many times before, you're the best Bryan! Not too bad considering the skies Sunday afternoon, huh?! Hope you have a great 4th. Talk to you soon!!
jw, were you flying last night? there were a half dozen warbirds circling addison - for kaboom town, i suppose. a beautiful c-47, a b-25, and a warhawk were all i could identify, but they all sure looked to be having fun!
Nope. Ours would have been in it, with five more sixes, but the weather was too threatening to take a chance on having the six out in it. The 25 was the one I posted a page or so ago, it's beautiful.
I just started in on this thread this morning. After making it through the 50th page (some two hours and counting) I skipped to the last few pages.
Is anyone planning on meeting up in Oshkosh this year for the 2007 EAA and when/where is it happening. It looked like there was some mention of that but I got a little lost.
Here are a few snaps from my Alaskan vacation last week. Until last week I've kinda always wanted to fly the heavy metal, now I've experienced what real flying is that my change. This evening I should have a few more De Havilland Beaver shots done.

I'll be at Oshkosh the 27th till the end, I've rented a 310 to fly up there with a few buddies paying for part of the gas. I can't wait!
That is real flying! By the way, you turned me on to SmugMug.com and I signed up as a Pro Gallery customer. I'm using it to solve a problem I've had for about a year. All the parents that have kids playing team sports with my Grandkids have been begging me to show them any shots that include their little ones. I shoot about 400 images per game and there was no way I could show them that many shots times 20 or so games. I'm putting a workflow together with the help of Adobe Lightroom (a priceless program!) where I can batch process the images from a game batch size them and upload them to SmugMug. The additional benefit is they do print fulfillment for me. Once I have the images there, I don't have to touch a thing. I'm in the process of putting an aviation image gallery there too. The people who collect me limited edition display prints will have no interest in this resource, but I think there are lots of people who will. The galleries will be at http://www.jimwilsonphotography.smugmug.com
Jim,
I'm pretty happy with smugmug though they could stand to do a few things better. There latest update really took away some nice stuff. I just started using lightroom today and its kicking my tail. Its going to take some time to get used to and I need to read up on this batch edit you mentioned, that would save me tons of time.
another pretty satisfied smugmug user. other than some shipping issues, which is really a problem with ez-prints (their lab), they've been outstanding. very good customer service!
They have been very responsive to any questions I've asked. Hope the print quality is as good. I tried Shutterfly's pro services but spent a half a day trying to figure out the interface and get it to work, finally gave up. I e-mailed them a week ago asking for a credit for the $200.00 fee and haven't heard a word back from them as of today. If anyone wants prints of some of the images I'v posted I'm building that gallery right now. There's probably 100 images posted and I'm adding more every day. Let me know what you think!
I've used smugmug for a little over a year now and have been very pleased with their services. The only problems my customers have reported was they sometimes couldn't use the shopping cart - but every time it has been because their work server settings blocked them from doing it. Of course that isn't smugmugs fault. They have been very quick and helpful any time I've asked a question as well. The largest print I've seen them do for me was a couple of 20x30s and as you might expect they were a little grainy but I'm sure that is due to the fact that I was shooting with a 20D in low light. Still they were fine from an appropriate viewing distance.
I just bought a MacBook and used it while on vacation last week to upload a few shots to my smugmug site. Though I have PS2 on my work computer, I thought using Aperture would suffice while on the trip. Either I don't understand it or else I need some quality time with the book to get much out of it. I used iPhoto (uuuck) to edit the shots and will probably go back through and re-edit them in PS2 once I get back to the office.
This is the only air shot the whole trip - there were other opportunities but either I had the wrong lens on or just didn't want to deal with the dust that changing lenses allows. This is with the 100-400...
Thanks for the feedback on SmugMug. I've transitioned my new MacBook Pro to CS3 but am running CS2 on my PowerBook and Desktop G5. I like to do it that way so I always have older familiar set ups that I know are working. I have become an Apple devotee, but had the same experience with Aperture. I took it back. Lightroom, on the other hand, has been a tremendous boon to my workflow. With Scott Kelby and Martin Evening's books, I've gotten up to speed quickly and really like the program. Well worth the $299.00. Any of you guys who are serious about Photoshop should join the NAAP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals). The group is tremendous and for 99 bucks a year you get a monthly magazine that is worth twice the dues! The association members get discounts on software and some hardware, all the significant tutorial books. Each I save four or five times my dues just on tutorial books and DVD's. The magazine is really quality and will save you hours off the learning curve. Scott Kelby is a great guy and loads of fun in person and in print. He has worked hard to build this little niche, and he has succeeded it' s now a 20 million dollar organization. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!!
