What's up with the King Air? Is that the one the guys had a cracked windshield at altitude and then proceeded to over-stress the airframe coming down?
JW
They had an explosive decompress at FL280, passed out, woke up in a dive at 8,000 and pulled the tail off when they pulled out of the dive. The airframe is a wreck, the wings are actually bent in the middle where the two wing sections come together. The plane landed just as you see it. If you google the tailnumber you can get the preliminary report from the NTSB. Scary stuff but those birds are built well.
Whooops ... I just read the preliminary NTSB report. Sounds like an experience best avoided. :worried:
But, strange as it may seem, the engineer in me (Materials Science & Engineering) wants to see more of that bird. It's a testament to solid engineering that the plane survived.
Despite the fact that I know I was standing on a small hill when I shot these, it was a small hill, damnit. So I find it more than mildly unsettling to look so far "down" at these people... at 340mm... http://www.pbase.com/image/80792774/large.jpg
