I don't know if that banana thing works. I guess the theory is it's the only thing that tastes ok on the return trip! Tell him not to let that deter his passion for aircraft. He just joined a club with some pretty distinguished members. What a great brother you are!!
Jim,
Thats the only reason he should have eaten the bananas. Despite his lack of color when he climbed out he enjoyed the hell out of the ride. It didn't deter anything but his desire to save money.

Hey Billy,
which GA. airport were you at? I've been thinking of hangin' out and taking some shots just for fun. Seeing a bunch of T-6s or P38s or just about anything would be great fun.
I'm in north Atlanta.
By the way, I've pretty much decided to take the plunge on the Nikon 200-400 if I can find one. If anyone sees one in stock somewhere, please let me know!
While we are on the hardware topic, are you guys using any filters? The entire South East (I think) has been blanketed by this nasty smoke haze from wildfires for the past couple of weeks. It makes for some nasty, nasty air and it got me to thinking if a UV Filter would help and then if you guys used any filters (UV, Circular Polarizer, etc) for aviation photography?
My local airport is ribbon cutting the 2000' extension to the main runway which will make it 12000' total. That might bring some more big birds to point and click at.
On a side note, I've been under the weather with a nasty infected spider bite for 10 days now. This caused me to miss a nice water fly-in (splash-in) at a lake near me. They said there was 21 planes in the water.

Don't know about anybody else, but I find hanging a very cheap UV filter on a lense that cost thousands of dollars rather pointless. I don't use them. I only use a polarizer for landscapes. As the plane moves across the sky, the polarizer needs to be rotated, good luck with that. Just my opinion though. Many use and swear by UV filters, not me though.
Tim is correct on the filter issue. I bought a bunch of B+W UV filters for my Hasselblads, they made no difference at all, at considerable cost. The only valid use I've found for UV filters is to protect the front of your lens in case of banging or scratching.
They are expensive, but NIK has a filter pack that used judiciously can make dramatic differences in skies. You have to practice with them, the graduated blue is a great tool for just what you are facing, but it takes some technique to make it look natural.
Speaking of Hasselblads, I've got a 203FE, several backs and a number of great FE lenses, backs and prisms, that I'm going to ship off to KEH or someone to sell, they are EX+++. Know of anyone in the market? I'm afraid they don't make good chocks for the planes.
Good Evening 007 (Wow! That just feels cool to say!!)
Glad you've found us and have enjoyed the images and discourse. You've already discovered it, but within our 100+ pages are the comments and images of some of the greatest folks you could ever hope to meet. Please come back and enjoy often!
I've been (and am still) on a whirlwhind tour of The Lone Star State. Last week I was in the panhandle shooting for The Southwest Dairy Association. By the way, I think global warming could be caused by Bovine flatulence, or Al Gore's flatulence, or both.
I'm currently at the opposite end of the state shooting a home in the Hill Country. All in all (because the weather has been so crummy and the plane has remained tucked in it's hangar) I have driven 2,000 miles of Texas since last Thursday. Not many states you can do that in, and not see something twice.
I did happen to spend a few minutes in Palo Duro Canyon on my way to the assignment. The sky was magnificent for 30 minutes, hard to believe I drove through 4 hours of black thundering rain clouds prior to this capture. I guess that's all that counts!
On the filter issue, I have spent a (to me) considerable amount of money getting B+W multi-coated UV filters for all my lenses. However, the filters are only there to protect the front glass element from scratching or damage. Better to lose a $90 filter than a $1,800 lens. And my reason for buying high-quality expensive filters is only to ensure that I don't degrade the image quality from the lenses themselves.
Gimme a few more months while I get my plane rebuilt and finished. Then we can have a photo shoot too, to see if I really can build the nicest Seneca III in the neighborhood as I'm trying to do.
By the way, the CPL did work well (or at least, I thought it did) to slow down the shutter speed while also improving the color saturation at the Red Bull air race. I'll try that trick again, and simply be prepared to untwist it or even remove it if the shutter speeds get too low.
There is a 172 on field at MBO I delivered to the owner a few years ago. N1697Y I believe is the tail number. She's all white whit a MSU sticker on the tail, a sweet bird.

yeah - you can't pull on the slots from the airfield
There is supposed to be an airshow of some kind this weekend at PDK - anyone know the details? Heard the tailend of the commercial on WSB and haven't heard anything more.
