Thanks for keeping this in perspective for us Andrew. I guess we'll have to be satisfied with our thread being the best group of people ever amassed on FM.... Can I get an AMEN!!!

I hate to squeal on ya, but this isn't the longest running thread on FM
This baby started 2 months and a bit earlier and has over 1600 posts and 600.000+ views.
And to be honest, I don't even know if the "Post Pics of Canon In ACTION" thread takes the cake or not, since I don't visit every part of the forum. Sorry
Yeah the "Show us YOUR Studio" thread is probably the grand daddy of them all with over 2137 posts and views of 1,608,943 since Oct 26, 2004. Of course a lot of this years posts have been bumps.
But it's beside the point really... I don't care about how long it is running.
What does matter is content, and the content of this thread is simply amazing. I've had to pick my jaw of my desk several times, browsing this thread, and that's something that happens rarely. Some of it is just breathtaking.
And on a personal note: I envy a lot of people out here, in a positive way. You lucky lucky bastards You're not working, you're being paid for having fun. Just keep up the excellent work and continue to show some of the take please
Thanks for your thoughts!! While I've met a few Pros that felt like they were doing their clients a huge favor gracing them with their talent, I think most of us are well aware of how fortunate we are to make our living with our cameras and creativity.
I visited the USS Alabama memorial last week chasing after a new wing for a Lake Amphibian. I took this shot which almost brought a tear to my eye. This Mustang won't be making the trip in September, or ever methinks.
What do you suppose the history is on that 51? How about the Panther?! Man I'd like to load those babies up and bring them back to Dallas for the treatment they deserve.
No, I'm afraid I don't know anything about either of those. The aviation wing of the USS Alabama museum was almost totally whipped out and they don't give you any information about the aircraft of their respective futures. They are putting the final touches on the building but if you didn't see the planes sitting in the parking lot you would never know they were there. I'd love to see them brought back here and taken care of, I'll volunteer to drive the truck.

I'd be glad to. I live in Alabama and have visited this frequently.
The P-51 was flown by Captain Leon Roberts of the Tuskeegee airmen, which were the first black fighter pilots and from Tuskeegee Institute in Alabama. Cpt Roberts was credited with 1 kill in the war on Jan. 27th 1944 by downing a Focke Wolfe 190 while defending the Allied amphibious landings at Anzio.
US ARMY P-51D-25-NA
Serial # 44-74216
The Panther is a F9F-5P, 1 of 36 unarmed recon planes. Couldnt find any history though.
The Watsonville fly-in opened today, in foggy conditions, and it got foggier toward the evening when there was to be some performances. Despite the bad conditions, I got a few keepers -- finally getting a chance to try out what I've learned from reading this thread (in my case mostly having to do with panning and prop blur). The performers did a little formation flying, but came back pretty quickly due to low ceiling.
the one of the skymaster landing.. I'm surprised I even got one keeper there, as I was shooting that at 1/40th sec @ 200mm. A little sharpening helped. Like I said, its my first time really trying this out. Lots of fun, and I'll have some of the static display images in a day or two. As usual, many nice planes to look at Wish I could go back tomorrow.
Yes, Timeless is the perfect word, I can look at these all day long, and remember back when I was a kid walking down the aisles of the local model shop at all this fantastic posters of the new releases, and how I wanted to be the one taking those photos. You prove that one can get a little closer by doing it. Outstanding work.
A couple of weeks ago I had the oppprtunity to tag along during a photo flight with Sean Tucker and the Team Oracle stunt biplane while they were training in Salinas, CA. What resulted were some great first time shots, which can be see here: http://www.hisandhers.com/his/photo/070429/. Needless to say I’m hooked. I cannot wait until they return to the Bay area, so I can do it again.
Thanks, Jim. I'd sure like to do more of this. This morning I'm feeling thankful over 3 and 4-blade props, making the photographer's work easier than the 2-blade.
Ron, some really great ones in there. Wow, what an opportunity!!
Okay so I’ll admit it I have a great job, well great from the photographic opportunities that have come my way. It looks like I will get a few more chances this year to go up with the Team Oracle crew in or around October over San Francisco, I am drooling already.
A few days before the photo flight I was given the chance to do a ride-along as the Team Oracle was practicing flying in formation, so I was limited by short wide angle lenses, but I was able to pop a few photos while we were doing loops, barrel rolls, hammerheads and tail spins, to my avail I was not even queazy. Just had a great time. Here is a link to those photos: http://www.hisandhers.com/his/photo/070426/.
Lars, wonderful work too. That Skymaster shot is exceptional. For the Pitts on the ground, maybe crop out a little of that gray sky, what do you think?
