anyone ever had (have) both of these? I am thinking of getting the TC, but have some questions...

Is it easy to operate with gloves on? I ask because winter is coming up and i will be using gloves and want to know if the RS is easier to use with gloves, vs the TC. Also, how is battery life? Sorry about the dumb questions

I've had the TC for 2 years now, the battery is still ticking. Even if it died, the manual trigger will still work, while the advanced features wouldnt.

Because of the manual trigger, as long as you can push a button down, you should be ok using this as a trigger.

I have both, and I don't see how the RS would be easier to push down with gloves on. As far as batter goes, I've only had the TC for a month, but generally if I'm not going to be using it, I just take the batter out and turn it upside down.

Dustin,
I only have the TC, but when I bought it I checked out both. I think they use the same shutter release button. If you need the features of the TC, then get it. I use mine all the time for portraits and landscapes. It works great for shooting astrophotograpy. Mine spent the night in the Columbia River (17 hours) and after cleaning it well it still works great.

OUCH!!!

The battery in the TC is the same as that in a digital watch. Think about how long a typical digital watch battery lasts, the TC doesn't do much more than that (arguably it does less, since it's not changing the LCD all the time).

As for which one to get, definitely the TC. It was only around 3x the price of the RS and the functionality it provides is far more than 3x greater. When my adidt remote bit the dust I was trying to decide what to replace it with, and realized if I bought the RS there'd always be times where I wished I had the TC. I've already used it many times.

As for using with gloves, well, don't expect to use any of the timer functions with gloves on. The buttons are quite small and recessed, to avoid accidentally hitting them I suppose. The manual release should be fine, however.

I also have both, but use the simple release for anything but nighttime work. The battery life in the TC is not a problem, but it is much bulkier than the other one.

If you ever need to shoot longer then 30 seconds (manual 30 seconds) you will need the timer. It can also be set to do 2minute exposure 1 second apart 99 times in a row.

Canon says the battery lasts 3 years -- I just got mine. But I don't see the issue, since it can't be all that expensive to replace it.

I have both. If you are going to end up with 2 or more bodies it is nice to have both types. If you are only going to have one I would spend the extra money and get the TC. If you only have the RS you will allows need/want the TC functions
