I visited NY City this weekend. When I came back, the over head view shot was taken so I scrapped the shots from the Empire State building. So, here is a handheld pic from inside the Lincoln Tunnel. CC is always welcome.

That's a great shot! The color and tilt works great for me, adds to the feeling.

Thanks Anders,
Nothing much wrong with the original but it I think it added a little more interest by rotating the image.

Thanks Tom, I'm glad you like it. I packed light for the trip and I only brought my 17-85 IS. I agree, the IS certainly helped getting the sharper image here, especially as we were moving when this shot was taken. Settings; 1/15s, ISO400, f/5.6, 85mm

Thanks for the vote of confidence Endre. This is the pic the family chose, not the one I chose. Somtimes I doubt my own eyes and judgement and that seems to be wise at times.

Christian, I've never been able to try so far. Do you find IS also useful for non-human vibrations or a combination such as your case?

Thanks for commenting and I'm glad it is to your liking. I did a series of 3 shots, this one I think I actually rested my arms on the first row seats of the bus not to loose balance.
I have found that if I put the camera on a tripod, I get better results with IS off.
As far as IS and mechanical vibrations, I am not sure as I have not tried it either. I would venture to say that using a tripod on a moving vehicle for shots of stationary subjects inside the vehicle, like a bus, and handheld for subjects outside the vehicle and I might be completely wrong. But, who will use a tripod in a moving bus anyway? I am sure there are many times your body and arms are acutally a buffer to mechanical vibrations and movements too. Not sure that helped answering your question though.

Nice shot Christian. I'm glad to read that you weren't standing up in the back of a pick-up or standing out of the sunroof with a tripod and camera to get this.. ha ha. I like the tilt and the reflections coming from everywhere, pretty cool!

Thanks Christian, it certainly did. It also made me laugh a little. I imagined myself trying to take a picture with a huge tripod in a bus full of people. I'm kind of shy and hesitant in many situations. Would a nice photo worth every effort really

Thanks Wilson,
I am glad I did not have to use that technique either. Some friends arrange an annual trip to the American Doll Factory. My daughter has basically grown out of it so we used the opportunity to ride along and spend the day in NY. It was kind of nice not having to think about driving ourselves.
I think the shot came out nice on the monitor with a little pp. I liked the color and reflections myself. I'm just glad the reflection in the ceiling is not the Hudson leaking in. or is it.

I was wondering about the reflection myself. If it's not the river, what is is then really? I've been just once to Manhattan and never been through any of the tunnels unfortunately.

Thanks Jane,
I learned somethings from reading about shooting guns which works for me. I tend to shake a bit myself but I can slow my pulse (heartbeat) quite a bit by breathing out slowly and long. Less pulse -> less shake and that works for me, when I concentrate. But, there is no sub to IS. And, not all shots work out.

Evren,
Regarding the tripod, my opinion is that I could not see anyone wanting the trouble to set one up in a public bus. I happened to know many people on the bus.
About being shy and all that, I am too. I just don't think that I will ever see the same people again, so they can laugh all they want. And it's only for a minute anyway, then they forget about the whole thing.
I did not realize the strong reflections when I took the shot but I think, like many tunnels here, the reflection is mostly from ceramic tiles with glazing but there maybe some water too..... Help!. (Need ot change text above seeing what I am seeing now as I am not sure about the water.)

Very cool shot Christian. I like the angle and colors, and the fact that you appear to be above the traffic.

Thanks Bob. I don't think the shot would have been anything like this if I was in a Miata or a low car like that. Not planned, just at the right place at the right time.

A super shot!! I love the monochromatic look of all the tail lights reflecting off the road and ceiling. This has to be a finailist for sure. Nice job.
