However, we do not know how these lenses with residual aberations will react on an M8.
True, but reports on the RD1suggest that will be not much different. And won't it be fun to try it out? at 250 $ with a resale value of 245 $ there is no way you can go wrong.

I get it now. This message did not appear until these others that follow appeared. A glitch in the web-server software?? Seems like a waste of bandwith to have to 'flip' the pages.
Tom
I assume once a post has appeared after the page turner the page turner can go back and delete their page turning post. That's a contorted sentence
Now, a real macho man M user would be busting out the Varioflex
I'm vastly amused by the "why bother with the M8?" threads in the Canon zone, and, am also really waiting to see how the M8 works, and the Pentax K10. I love competition!
Just chiming in, wow what a thread. I'm new to this RF/Leica world but everything about the simplicity and style of RF shooting appeals greatly to me. I have an M8 on order, but not expected before April. (Any shorter lists out there?). I just got a great deal on an essentially new 35 lux ASPH, (sold my nikon 28/1.4 for this) and will probably get a 50 of some form and hold there for awhile. This looks like it'll be a fine place to hang out and learn, hopefully add something as well. best....Peter
Talking about 50s:
Which ones do you guys plan to get and why?
Right now I am in the process to get a 50lux and probably sell my 50cron and also maybe my 50 noctilux.
Why?
The lux should give me all the cron gave me but 1 step faster and maybe even a bit more microdetail when used between f1.4 and f2.8 (compared to cron). It is said to have a nice bookeh, it is also said to deliever a little warmer images (which is welcome for me but not the main reason). Its also as compact as the cron.
Now with the Noctilux on the rd1 the DOF is really shallow, its not easy to focus correct. Its also quit big compared to other M lenses.
But then again its this special look it gives. Should I keep it.
So question for you, which would be your dream-50-combo and which do you plan to get??
1) 50/1.4asph, nothing else
2) 50/2.0 (for travel) and 50/1.0
2) "just" the 50/2.0 is enough and fine
3) 50/1.4 for travel and 50/1.0 for "fun" and the special look
I am also very interested in opinions comparing the charakter of the 50-lenses at f 1.4 and 2.0

If one has the money to burn, OK. The M8 has higher MP as well as no AA and thus should be capable of showing higher acutance. Pixel peeping here we come...

G.
Did you mean Visoflex
Just wait till the canonites see what the 1.4 asph lenses deliver at 1.4 compared to their lenses!!

Thomas, thanks, this thread was one of the factors which makes me wondering if I am going the right way if I will sell my Noctilux...and get Summilux instead

As many of you know, I've been testing RF lenses fairly extensively for the past couple of years. Based on my experience with the M8 so far, I expect the following lenses will be good choices for the M8.

Sean, will you add a telephoto lens test for the R-D1 and M8? That would be very useful.
Sean,
I just bought the 24 asph for my R-D1 and so far I prefer it to the Elmarit 28.
Indeed I love the 35mm focal lenght so the logical counterpart on the R-D1 would be the 24.
I also happen to prefer the colors and microcontrast of the 24, the images simply "pop" more than the 28mm ones.
I never used the summicron 28 asph and giving the M8 cropping factor I think I'going to like the 28mm focal lenght more (about 35mm).
It is also 1 stop faster and I prefer the cleaner 28-90 framelines.
I read your reviews but there is not a direct comparison between the 24 asph and 28/2 asph, which is obvious giving the different focal lenght.
Btw Sean, if you don't mind, which you prefer as far as sharpness, colors and fingerprint ?
