Thanks Woody.
- I subscribed to Sean Reid's magazine today. Those are for sure great and useful reviews. I've read the 21/2.8 Zeiss ZM vs Leica Elmarit.
You can't go wrong with any of the two lenses.
Also check Erwin Puts' site. He reviews all the ZMs. Regarding the the 21mm ZM he says "the lens is second to none". Hi praise, indeed, coming from a Leica lens expert.
Regards
Dave G.
I found a 75 summilux that I had to have. My justification is that I really want to do a proper comparison between it and the 75 apo. So it is for pure research purposes only.

Okay i went off the deep end. Look what i just bought . I really am one sick camper
I spied that Elmarit 135 as well! But didn't know how well the eyes would fit/work on the M8...
I could use a recommendation for a compact, cheap 135 that resolves well at or near infinity when stopped down. Probably doesn't need eyes, certainly doesn't need to be fast, or new. Bokeh is of little or no concern. Flare resistance is important (which I think excludes some of the early f/4's from what I've seen). Lower contrast would be better.

Let me also step into the Leica confessional.

We'll look forward to the results of your research...

I knew where you got it from, Kurt . Marco is really a nice guy or are you dealing with Sandy? I bought my Nocti in like-new condition from him.
Joshua, it appeared to be in mint condition and it looked awfully lonely on ebay with no one bidding on it. So, I was just being a good samaritan. At least you haven't started duplicating any focal lengths yet Guy.
Having sold the 75/1.4 when I switched to digital and purchased only recently the 75/2.0 apo asph in anticpation of my M8 delivery, I found there to be a world of difference between the two lenses in weight and ability to bring to focus.
Anticipating post-processing in CS2 and the high ISO speeds available to the M8, I saw no reason to reacquire the Summilux.

The f 4.0 135 Tele-Elmar will deliver near-apo results.Flare is very well surpressed from 1965 onwards. It is just as good close-up.The M8 has no 135 framelines, so the 2.8/135 is more practical. The goggles work just fine. This lens is slightly softer, especially at close subject distance. This is the same optical cell as the 2.8/135 R lens. The 3.4/135 Apo-Telyt is without argument the best 135 lens ever built. But with your requirements: get any 4.0/135 Tele-Elmar. Look at the ffordes website. There are dozens for sale there.
Guy, don't forget to have the goggles adjusted by DAG. They are knocked out of alignment quite often on older lenses and it is no big deal to get them realigned.

Excellent, many thanks! I'll look into it! For a finder I was going to start with my 150mm Mamiya 7 finder and mask off a 35mm frame with gaffer tape for now. I don't really use it with the 150mm lens, anyway. I'm sure given enough time someone will make a 135mm VF for the M8...
I think I finally figured it out. Guy Mancuso is a fraud. He says he is a photographer but I have the straight scoop and found that he is a student working on his Doctorate degree in marketing psychology! The title of his thesis is "The power of personal influence" or "how to get otherwise sane people to part with all of their money in the quest to have as many toys as Guy (ostensibly) has. He has never taken a photographic image but has learned all the jargon and now has a cadre of about $100 people investing multiple thousands of dollars each in the race to the finish.
