I too like the shallow DOF and the emphasis on the name, but I think I would have liked to see the front of the machine a little more in focus. The lighting however is superb. I like the rich, warm tones as well.
Agree with Jane. I would like a bit more in focus as well. The brass work and fine craftsmanship is beautiful and to be admired. The lighting and composition is great!

Yea, the dof is bugging me too. I even tried another go at it last night and couldn't quite get the position right again. I think this'll just have to be the submission this week and I'll have to do a redo once I can get everything alittle more tuned.
The table top it sits on looks like rosewood, it's very rich.
The machine looks to be in pretty good condition too.
I'd also go with more dof, but at this angle, you'lll probably find that pretty hard to do. Can you back up and use a longer lens? That may help you, can't say.
Would you care to describe your lighting setup?
Thanks.
Yea, I originally used a 50mm lens, but I didn't quite get the distortion I was looking for from it. I then went to a 35mm and it began "popping" so-to-speak. I tried this shot again tonight and still I couldn't get the angle quite to my liking. Oh well, you win some you lose some.
As for the lighting. I kept it very simple. One lamp over my right shoulder. I basically moved it around as I was repositioning so that the reflections wouldn't get out of hand. Thanks for comments!
Well, I changed it!! I'm not sure if I made it by the deadline, but I just couldn't live with myself if I kept the other one there. If I missed the deadline, oh well, I'll try better next time.
