Exactly right and pretty much what I would use this lens for.

Does the new 70-200 f4 IS work with the 1.4 extender?

Is anyone preordering this lens? Has anyone heard when it will be shipping? Late November??

Nope. Let someone else risk buying the bad first runs or so. I wonder if this lens will be recalled too.

You maybe right! If nothing else, the price will probably drop. Has Canon ever recalled an L lens?

Wow, you would think they would at least get the Ls right Guess I need to pay a little more attention to all of Canon's releases and not just the ones I am interested in.

I'll be ordering one. The 70-300 is not weather sealed and it is nowhere close when it comes to build quality. Anybody want to buy a really sharp non IS version?

I am seriously tempted by this lens. I think it makes a great walkaround on full frame bodies. I once owned 24-105L for 5D but it didn't impress me much. I then went for 70-200/4L paired with a wide prime, distagon 25/2.8 and still I am very happy with this combo. If the IS version is as good in image quality, especially when mounted with a 1.4x TC, I will jump on it.

i'd love to get it for the above mentioned reasons, but seeing as it'd be ~$1350 w/ the tripod collar, and i can get a used 2.8 IS (the white knight) for a hundred more, it just makes sense to put up with the extra heft of the bigger lens.

And I think that is where Canon will lose a few buyers for this lens. At that price, most people will say I will just save a little more and buy the 2.8 (new or used). Then, there are people like me that just do not want to carry around that 2.8 (IS or not)

Right, I'd never buy the 70-200 f2.8 IS because I'd never carry it. For me, assuming IQ is there, the 70-200 f4IS at the price advertised is a great addition to the Canon line.

I was fairly disappointed in the price as well, i was hoping for something at or below $1000.00. I was planning on getting the 70-200 2.8 IS but when i saw this i was really happy until i saw the price, so ill probably just be going with the 2.8 unless something changes.
