Is there a difference? If so, what is it?

The "HS" stands for "High Speed" and means it has the power booster for extended rapid film advance.

Here is a link to one on eBay

A 1v can be turned into a 1vHS by adding the power booster/vertical grip.

Tom, you are incorrect... the 1V has only its built-in motor which is marginally slower than 6 fps. More like 3-3.5 fps.

and with the booster, its only capable of 10FPS with the rechargeable battery pack. It'll only manage ~6.5 FPS with AA batteries.

in my opinion, that's basically the PBE2/1V HS's only downfall.

actually, its pretty easy to trick the pbe2 to shoot 10 fps with standard batteris; just tape over the hole at the end of the batter cartrighe thingie and use high power batteries, like lithium AAs

Last question:

So an EOS 1V with a power booster is equal to an EOS 1V HS?

With power booster PB-E2. It will also accept PB-E1, but that won't allow 10fps; maybe 6fps or so.

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=138&modelid=7244

OK:
1V=No Power Booster E2
1VHS=1V + Power Booster E2
1V "DP"=1V with Battery Pack E1

for prices, i'd check KEH's used/new section....
