Very pleased with my 5D. Have decided that a 35mm lense is wide enough for me. In fact with FF now my 50/1.4 is usable for those up close shots. My question after reviewing photodo is this. Will the contax distagon 35/2.8 graded at a 4 show a discerable difference than the canon 35/1.4 wide angle also graded a 4? How does the sharpness of the contax stack up against the canon 50/1.4 rated at a 4.4 also. Anyone on here have an opinion on this? I'm looking to increase the detail in leaves and foliage as best as I can get it. Also what kind of price is the contax 35/1.4 going for and is it worth it to move up a notch with this lense graded at 4.3.
Thanx
John

Have you considered the Carl Zeiss Jena 35mm Flektogon f2.4 MC? It could well be the best CZJ lens there is. It has more than enough resolution for a 1Ds2 and is overall a superb lens for a fraction of the price of the ones you mention.
At f8, photodo grades the Contax 35mm f2.8 at 0.82 and the Canon 35mm f1.4 at 0.81 (but 0.82 at f4!). A difference this slight will not be discernible even on a 1Ds II, assuming the samples you buy are nominal!
However, at f8 the Contax 35-70mm scores 0.85 - a difference which is clearly discernible, as I found out in my Contax 35mm v 35-70mm test here
The Canon 35L will probably be better at f4, have AF, and be a lot more expensive than the Distagon prime or the 35-70mm zoom - which curiously is actually the sharpest tool in the box.
