I modded Guy's 5D yesterday. Now, all Leica lenses should work perfectly on the this camera. Here's the 5D with the Leica 15/2.8.
I'd have to play around with exposure a little bit more to find optimal settings. Also, please note that my only remaining Leica to EOS adapter is a Chinese Fotodiox knock-off, so focus sometimes wasn't as exact as I'd would have liked. But, the results are quite good.
Planar, I don't want to start a one is better than the other thread. We've had quite a few of those lately.
I started the thread to let others who have an inclination to try other lenses on their 5D know that it is possible to modify the camera to accept these lenses.
Spartan, all you have to do is picture a 24-70 attached to the 5D. The two lenses are nearly identical in dimensions with the caveat that the 35-70 is about a half an inch longer.
Here's a picture of the mirror. The edge ends up looking a little rough on the edge, but that could be polished further if that bothers someone. As it doesn't affect camera performance or image quality, I'm of the opinion that minimizing any potential extra debris by skipping a polishing is a good thing.
It was a little hard for me to believe before I saw the picture, but now I do believe. Kurt, you are really a hero. Once more, I am impressed by what can be seen on this board.
Remember that the angle of view of this photo is also deceiving. In this view, the mirror appears shorter than it is in reality. Only 2-3mm of the bottom of the mirror have been removed.
