The Planar 100/2 is known to have very nice bokeh, but there's nothing like the bokeh from the 85/1.2. It's in a class all its own. The 85/1.2s were only made as a 50th and 60th anniversary limited edition. Apparently they were so perfectly designed and built, they ended up being sold at a loss just so they could be sold in the marketplace. The 85/1.4 is reported to have CA issues at the wide open apertures.
100/2s can be found for $1200, The last 85/1.2 is saw at Classic Connection/LeicaSams went for $4500 two weeks ago.
The P100/2 is a true CZ beauty, but has a large "shark fin". Other C/Y lenses in this category include the SP60 and the AS200. The fin gouges the plastic interior of certain bodies (e.g. D30). EF-S bodies like the 20D should okay in this regard. I've been exploring the use of an extension tube: while that solves the gouging problem, one loses infinity focus. I cannot bring myself to take a metal file to my P100... perhaps Guy and Kurt can devise a Franken-mirror-box.
does somebody know about a difference between the contax zeiss 4/18mm from the 70s and one from the 90s? Mine is a MM but I might have the possibility to get an early copy of it. from all optics (I got some) that' s the one I am most interested.
did zeiss already build it that early with internal focusing? and is it's performance equal? which one would adapt better on a 5D?
many questions, maybe somebody is in a mood to response. thanks for advice
