I bought the latest version of proshow gold and made a short slideshow to test it burning to DVD..everything worked perfect. Now I have made a full-size show and when i go to render the DVD image it freezzes at about 40% everytime. I tried deleting the slide where it froze in case it was a corrupted file.. but it doesnt make any difference. The show has 120 slides including some short video clips and 2 songs.
Any suggestions pleas help??
Mark
......I've got one for anyone also. Sound, when I but an MP-3 music track on, and if I want to change the tune, the original one, even when I properly remove it, plays along with the new track.
are you saying it freezes during production or when playing it on your dvd player?
if production..
I might suggest disable your antivirus programs during production and burning ALSO
define freezes .. I mean time wise that is... might help if we new the OS and PC specs a bit too.. migjt be no work for a new pc but a Chunk of a work for a P2
if you mean playing then I would ask what DVD media your using? or what player your using..
Sean
It gets to 40% of the rendering and then stops...a box comes up with the usual..microsoft encountered a problem...only option is to exit and program closes. I have 1GHz CPU with 1GB ram.
The problem is not with playing the DVD but with rendering it into a video.
Thanks for the replies.

My god this is spooky had exactly the same problem last night, bloody thing just kept crashing on me.
I wrote off to the support guys and here goes the reply

Close ProShow, and open the "My Documents" folder (or whatever folder
your show files are saved to) in Windows Explorer. Along with your show
data (.psh) file, there should be a file with the same name ending in
.pxc, a folder ending with _psdata, and possibly a file ending with .mpg
that contains a string of extraneous characters in the file name. Delete
all of these except for the PSH file (as this is the actual data file
that contains your show layout).
You should also install the new update that was recently released.
Uninstall ProShow and Photodex Presenter from the Add/Remove Programs
applet in the Control Panel (this will not affect any files that have
already been saved). Then download and install the latest version of
software (build 1630). Be sure to disable any download accelerators
during the download, and any antivirus or firewall software prior to
installation and first run.

These files will be created again when removed and when you go through the DVD disc output process as these are the files necessary for ProShow Gold to output the slide show. This is ok. As long as the output process is working you are in good shape.
Let me know if you have any further concerns.

I have a nother problem, ever since I have set this up the default for my E drive has been set to Music files. Now when I load my CF card I do not get prompted on what I want to do.
I have gone into the properties of the drive and changed it to pictures, click Apply, but then when I go back to check its changes it defaults to music files.
Has anyone got an idea how to set defaults for E drive or why mine will not budge from Music files.

Mark,
I was having the same thing happen to me several months back. I worked for days trying to determine the problem. I finally stumbled upon the fact that this only happened if I used a certain transition in the show. The culprit was the "Circular Wipe Transitions." If I use any of them my system does exactly what you discribe above. I stopped using them and the problem ended. Hope this helps!
I am a videographer-interested-in-photography. One of the things that we, in the videography business, have discovered is this (hopefully this will help with some of the problems that some of you are having)
Use at least 2 drives on you computer. Drive 1 should be the drive with your operating system on it. Drive 2 should only contain your project files. Use a decent sized 7200rpm drive at least. This keeps the computer from using up resources trying to run the os and project on the same drive, at the same time.
Also, how long are these files that you are burning? If they are large projects and pro show will allow it, reduce the bitrate for the burn.
Having said this, the problem that I read in the rest of this thread sounds like a crappy program, Pro Show Gold. I used to have problems with the older Ulead products until I upgraded to something more reliable.
I have never dealt with this program, so I went out and looked at some reviews on it and it isn't impressive.
Yes it does a basic slideshow, but seems to be very "buggy". One reviewer at Amazon.com gave it a max rating while complaining about all of the crashes and freezes.
Trust me when I tell you this: I went through this kind of frustration several years ago, while trying to figure out how to get video onto the pc, edit, render and author a DVD. DUMP THIS PROGRAM AND FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS CONSISTANTLY. . . you'll never regret moving on with your life.
I've never had any problems with pro-show gold, I've made quite a few slideshows with it. But then again, I've never added video. Dealing with video is a whole other ballgame, especially when needing to encode it etc for DVD playback its.
If you're going to be doing video, use a video editor. For the PC, Sony's Vegas or Adobe's Premier (or Premier Elements) would be my suggestions. I have Vegas and it is a GREAT product - also does still "slide shows"!
It ain't cheap, but it is stable and an excellent product.
Since I moved to Vegas a few years ago, I haven't dealt much with slide show type programs. I'm pretty sure that you don't want to spend that much money to make slide shows once in a while.
Unless you are making a very large, like up near an hour and a half to two hours in length, why burn to DVD? Most dvd players in the last few years will play vcd's perfectly well, as well as other file formats.
Rendering a project out to DVD formats can be very touchy, and evidently proshow gold doesn't handle that very well.
Thanks for all your replies..I will follow them up. I found a mpg2 file with the problem slideshow on it..burnt it to DVD....it worked but with no sound!! computers!!AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!I went to 2 wedding PRO PHOTO workshops recently and these top level pros all use PROSHOW gold ..so I bought it after trying pictures to exe. (works ok but not as super duper as psg.)
Trouble is I have wasted hours and hours on this already.
Anyone remember when you just put slides in a Kodak carousel and pushed the button..worst thing that could happen was slide jam..now thats progress!
i must be getting too old for this.
Mark.
PSG is buggy. But to emulate what it can do with still images on Vegas (I use both) would take considerably more time and effort. I did a mega-project for my sister's wedding and pushed PSG to it's limits. I found and dealt with all it's strengths, limitations, and a multitude of bugs. I find it better to use PSG to render an MPEG2 file, then use Vegas to do the audio and to author the DVD.
The project is rather large, but the output quality is excellent. So if you have the bandwidth, I suggest the largest version so you can get a taste for the PSG's capabilities: My Sister's Wedding
I followed another forum where a photographer was having similar problems and she changed the dvd brand and BAM no more problems. I use the software for all my photography and(knock on wood) have not experienced any problems making dvds.
Here is a recent show from my online sharing page. It is an excellent program for me and has become a valuable tool in my business.
I really enjoy you work! I've been a fan of one of your shows for quite some time now. The below show actually inspired me to start working with Proshow. http://www.photodex.com/sharing/spotlight/demoshows_ridout.html
I've had my issues with the program but I still use it and have found nothing that comes close to the simplicity of Proshow.
